I hatched the cutest little silkie crosses that were from shipped eggs. I have never had light blue or splash birds before so I was just wondering if these are blue? I don’t think splash is possible as the roo was a lavender bird (so he shouldn’t be carrying blue). I put a lavender silkie in the pic with them just for comparison (the one with the whitish yellowish head.)

The crosses shouldn’t be lavender because the hens were silkies and it is pretty rare for a silkie to carry lavender without knowing. In the past whenever I have ended up with blue chicks they are much darker than this, so I just wondered.

If you’ve ever hatched light blue chicks I’d love to see a photo. Haven’t really been able to find any. Thanks!

maybe blue splash.JPEG

A blue splash I hatched but then sold with a batch that was guaranteed or I'd have kept that one. She came back for more chicks and showed me a picture of it on her phone and it looked like, well, a blue splash.

I think yours are blue too, and so darned adorable!

Doris is beautiful!! Thank you for the pics - they help me confirm that these babies must be blue!! I have really only ever seen darker blue in silkies so it is fun to see this lighter shade!

Thanks Debbie! What a darling baby! I never would have guessed splash for that one! Super cool you were able to see a pic after it matured 💕

I don't think it gets any cuter than this. :love

I agree!!!! I might grow them out (at least one or two of them) even though I don’t need blues… but they are sooo cute, how could I not??

The best part is that they lay the cutest little blue eggs too! I have an adult that is the same cross (ameraucana bantam x silkie) and her eggs are my favorite. The one on the left is the cross egg, and the one on the right is a pure ameraucana bantam. I love the slight greenish tint that comes from crossing to silkie (since they have a slight tan/pink color to their eggs)
