Are these Chocolate Guineas?

Forgot "quirky" in the descriptions.

My chocolates are much darker than the photos above. They're only about 10 weeks old, but are MUCH darker. My buff looks to be about the same color as the ones in the photos.

I just really hate for someone to pay for a misrepresented bird, but like I said, I always research before buying. I have also decided that I do in fact like my guineas better than my chickens. They were all raised together as chicks/keets and the guineas are quite friendly. I could watch them all day! So glad I decided to get a few.

Doing the research is the buyer's job. Did they buy these as eggs, as keets, or adults? Either way, getting to know the seller somewhat, seeing where and how the birds are kept, how they're free-ranged (if they are) or getting pictures before buying might have helped this person a lot. Seems like the buyer didn't know what a Chocolate looks like either, and probably won't care. But Buffs are beautiful, too! And - shame on the seller for not knowing.

At any rate, if this were my friend, depending on the relationship, I'd tell him/her that they're not Chocolates so they don't perpetuate the misconception. I'd say, "Oh, look how LUCKY you are! You got Buffs!!!!" or something like that. It's all about allowing them to save face.

I finally got around to taking pictures of my three chocolate and one buff guineas. These aren't great pictures, because I stink at taking digital photographs (I'm old, and I still prefer the old SLRs), but I think they show the difference between Chocolates and Buffs really well - in shadow and in sun.

In the sun...

A good shot of the light/dark of Chocolates and Buffs

Group shot

My Buff - he/she was the runt, but has caught up!

Once you've seen them side-by-side, it's hard to mistake the difference. All these were hatched on 8/10/2012.

One more shot of them side by side with no sun

Sorry my pictures aren't any better. I'm going to get my daughter to take the next round :).

Great pics L, nice healthy babies! Love the purple iridescence the Chocs are getting to their feathers. And I'm so glad to see your runt caught up with the rest of the crew

Your pics show the color difference between Buff and Chocolate really well. I keep meaning to (always get busy and it hasn't happened yet tho), but eventually I will get some pics of my Buffs, Blondes and Chocolates together to show the shade differences between all of them.
