Go with Greenfire.. if you have the funds and you want the birds!
Over priced, yes, perhaps for folks who don't understand what it takes to collect/import birds and the challenges of working with more rare genetics to build up your own breeding stock enough to offer ANY to anyone else.
Generally, worth it if you want the birds without waiting several years for others who bought them this year trying to sell them for close to the same price AND still being the same stock BUT with less bio security guarantee and possibly more disease risk.
Greenfire farms chicks are always well packed and arrive in good condition compared to other more affordable hatcheries of which I've ordered from several.
Honestly $29 is cheap for GFF.. They ALWAYS include 2 extra chicks of each breed I've ordered. When they couldn't fill my order.. they offered a refund, put off until next year, or choose another breed. Despite not really wanting another breed.. I threw it out there.. and asked for the $100 each chicks.. They sent me chicks valued at $800 despite my original order being $269... For them.. they got rid of otherwise unsold chicks while I got to try an interesting breed. So they didn't actually lose that value and nor do I feel like I truly gained it.. since it was a compromise.. but I have no regrets!
I've ordered from GFF twice before and was looking at their site just a couple days ago.. with chicks in my cart! Needless to say I would VERY likely order from them again!
Noting they are indeed a hatchery.. and even as an avid hatcher who selects ALL breeding stock to meet the standard.. it is impossible to hatch ALL perfect chicks.. yes light toe nails pop up on melanistic breeds, comb sprig pop up on occasion, etc.. All the birds I've gotten from GFF have been decent.
STRONGLY suggest either SKIP ebay or INSIST on only NPIP certified sellers.. ANYONE shipping across state lines without it is doing so against state and federal agriculture laws! One of those things that makes GFF worth their price, if YOU have the means!
Although I tend to be against Marek's vaccinated birds since it just HIDES the symptoms.. it might be a wise choice to get it though.
Happy hunting!
