I’m not actually sure, I just moved them into a “brood box” and won’t be candling the eggs unless they start taking longer than they shouldHow does one put eggs under a chicken in to lockdown?
You moved the chicken and the eggs?I’m not actually sure, I just moved them into a “brood box” and won’t be candling the eggs unless they start taking longer than they should
Yes I moved them into a bin where I can monitor the eggs and mama (it’s her first time) and to protect the babies from the height of the original nest and my other birds, she wasn’t sitting at first for a hour or two but she’s good nowYou moved the chicken and the eggs?
Is she's still sitting on them?
There's not a way to lock down so to speak eggs that are underneath the bird.
Lockdown usually means you stop turning the eggs and you raise the humidity in an incubator.
I'm pretty sure they shouldve been in a safe place away from the other birds the entire time, not just now- Suddenly moving the nest and mama can often cause stress and they can abandon the eggs. You cant put them into lockdown when theyre under a broody- the mama bird will do pretty much everything herself.Yes I moved them into a bin where I can monitor the eggs and mama (it’s her first time) and to protect the babies from the height of the original nest and my other birds, she wasn’t sitting at first for a hour or two but she’s good now
if you can see internal pips/hear chirping, it wont hurt to put them into lockdown early. This is my same case with Khaki Campbell ducks (first time hatching) should I put them into lockdown a day early?
Update, left them with mama over night and this morning we have 3 external pips! One to goif you can see internal pips/hear chirping, it wont hurt to put them into lockdown early.
You are most welcome and I pray that all has gone well for your little one. Thanks, these have been under a chicken, and are due to hatch the 26th today being 22nd
