I have pearl greys and a pair of lavenders. The pearls are HUGE compared to the lavs and just about 5 months old. They are completely seperated from my chickens and I raided the nest and found a guinea egg the size of a medium chicken egg... I've got silkies and normally the guinea eggs are the same size as the silkie eggs...

I asked my other half to guess how much he thought the big guineas weighed and he is guessing around 8lbs. They are huge so are they Jumbos? They were purchased at Rural King as normal guineas I believe as I wasn't the one who went and bought them.

I've been having a lot of trouble attaching pics lately I can't figure why yet :/ trying to get a pic to upload wooo it loaded! I think this is a good pic to see their head to body ratio- oh the lolz

That would be so awesome if they are! Big ol fatfats:D
I've got little ones (normal I think) 1 white,1 lav, 2 pied and 2 royal purples. My pregnant dog ate 11 guineas early one morning.... I have chocolates and ugh I just got these little ones to end my heart ache of not being trampled when I opened the door. She escaped early one morning and they did too and Lord if she wasn't pregnant...

ANYWAYS! What happens if my pretty colors breed with these jumbos? And as far as the jumbo egg, my pearls just started laying about a month ago and the eggs were normal sized until this biggin. Is that a normal jumbo egg, should I expect them to start laying bigger eggs as they get into the swing of things? And lastly, do first time layers quit in their first winter?

If your "pretty colors" manage to breed with the Pearl Gray jumbos, the most likely outcome will be an intermediate size Pearl Gray offspring in the first generation. Pearl Gray is dominant to all other colors.

It is very possible that your over size guinea is a double yolk. While double yolks do not happen as often with guineas as they do with chickens they can and do happen. Your jumbos should lay a bigger egg than your normal size guineas. Guineas just like chickens start out laying a smaller egg than they lay after they have been at it for awhile.

It is not uncommon for guineas in southern states to start laying in the fall of their first year and then stop laying in winter. They then tend to begin a normal laying cycle the next spring.

Well elk you did it again! I just cracked open the jumbo egg and yes! Double yolker! And now they have all ceased laying. I hope everyone makes it thru the winter here and I'll just hold my breath til spring to see how it all goes! I'd be happy with 1st gen intermediate jumbos. I guess the trick would be to have those breed with another jumbo to get the color to show, elsewise if they breed with one of my standard prettiest I'm back to lil colorful birds. I am no genetic expert but our German shepherds started me in on it and I'm working on my lav ameraucanas- so why no have fun with the guineas too!? I saw at guinea farm.com they offer jumbo lavs..... I may just cave and get some come spring! I need a bigger coop LOL

I breed guineas and from what you have described they sound like Jumbo Pearl Greys.
