Are these Muscovy Ducks?

Sorry you didn't get what you thought you were buying. We have black scovies here with a white bib, some are neat bibs, some are wider. They were dumped on the property a few months ago.

Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Muscovies have a totally different look, different head shape, different bill shape. Although with ducklings, it is harder to tell, I find. And of course, not everyone knows what to look for--but you'd expect the OWNERS or people SELLING them to you to know... right?! Perhaps most obviously, muscovies don't quack! That immediately sets them apart! They quietly chirp, warble, or hiss. The warty faces on the adults are a dead giveaway too (no other duck looks anything like that)!

Someone once offered me some ducks for free. Curious, but always wary of showing too much interest in livestock sight-unseen, I probed for more info.

"I think they're Muscovies," she told me.

"Do they quack?" I asked.

"Yes. A lot."

"Well, um, uh... Muscovies don't... uh... actually quack like other ducks..." Awkward moment!

Well, sorry you didn't get what you wanted. But who knows, maybe it'll be a blessing in disguise. You never know!

Thanks for the replies!
I posted this last summer and they all ended up being black swedish (go figure). I have had ducks for years but that was my first time getting muscovy ducks. I knew they came in many colors, so didn't think anything of it when i bought them.
But I bought muscovy duckings from a reputable breeder shortly after that (thats where the lighter muscovy duckling in the pic came from) and realized I have been cheated!

I now have an excellent flock of muscovies

I have a trio of black and white pied that throw me the prettiest babies! I get chocolate, white with black and chocolate hats, black, black and white pied, chocolate pied, lavender and lavender pied, and buff. I also have a trio, 2 blue fawn and one blue, that I plan to breed this spring (one hen is on eggs). I can't wait to see what colors I get from them!

Fabulous! Sounds like a gorgeous flock. My trio of pieds are getting ready to hatch some ducklings. Can't wait!

In the first pic. The duckling in the front is a black swed, but the one is the back is a scovie

Their definately not muscovy's as i have had raised a few of them. One thing a muscovy has that no other duck has is a round circle ( looks like and upside down bowl) on the end of there top beak. That is one way to tell if they are muscovy's and i can't see close up but they don't look to have that. Gawgeous Ducklings :)
