Long story short, I am terrified of those parasites that get in between scales of chickens. These legs look normal, right?

In 10+ years.. I have YET to deal with scary scaly leg mites.

It's very different looking.. like yellow toenail growth coming out from under the scales and pushing them up. NOT the same as a dry scale on an older bird that's being replaced by a new one underneath,

But scales are scales.. they do have separation and right at the top of the foot/ankle they have to separate a little to allow for movement.

Anyways, it's great that you are staying vigilant.. make sure and check the vent area for angry skin monthly as northern fowl mite, red mites, and poultry lice are also very common and I have dealt with those, yet see folks oblivious to the signs.

Hope this helps some! :fl
