Are these really worth this much??

My opinion is he is targeting the cockfighters of the area since the asil is a great cross with some of the lighter gamefowl to make them stronger and more durable in the fight. The reason i say this because he put for legal purpose only so this leads me to believe it is for crossing with cockfighting games. I have seen some people pay upwards of 1500 a trio for great proven games so that price is not uncommon if he is a well know breeder.

I really hope not!

Personally I know far too little about asil to even begin to come up with a $$value for a trio from a photo. HOWEVER, this wuestion comes up alot here on various breeds. If you want to see common prices for various breeds, check out the eggbid listings--in general they are a far more accurate reflection of the market value for exhibition birds than BYC or craigs list. That is not to say that some birds there don't go for too much (such as the very, very PQ silkie that sold for 4 figures a few years ago) or too little.

Just because a bird is a game breed does NOT mean that it is used for illicit purposes. Making that assumption is unfair, and is the kind of thing that gets flame-throwng started, causing a thread to be killed.

A trio is generally sold for BREEDING purposes, and while asil are somewhat uncommon, those who have them swear by them as being an excellent bird.

I totally agree with Sonora. I have a friend that just recently acquire Asils and is really taken with them. They are an acquired taste but beautiful just the same. Who is to say what a trio of birds are worth. Whatever the traffic will bear is usually the guide.

I am willing to bet that the poster of that ad is going to get some very nasty comments/ replies. I know nothing of that particular breed but I have seen some very nice true breeds from specific lines go for 150.00 a trio but it is very uncommon in my opinion. Those birds in that ad are not worth that much money. I suppose if that was your "dream" bird and you could not find anyone else on the planet with them then they might be worth that.

I don't know if they are for legal purposes or not, but unfortunately fighting is a HUGE problem in this area. It's very sad. The Nashville Craigslist has a steady stream of "For legal purposes only" posts. All are for very expensive game birds.

I think that same seller has posted other fairly expensive gamebirds as well. Might be interesting to call and get more info for educational purposes. If he's like the rest of us chicken people he will LOVE talking about his birds.

Be interesting to know if he sells them at that price.

I have no idea what the standards are for these birds but I have heard they we're "high dollar" birds. Thats not the first ones I've seen for that much. They are Game Birds.

Wow! When I logged off, I had no replies to this thread...look at it now.

Thanks folks. I was just looking for opinions. There's no way...NO WAY I'd ever pay that much for any bird. My $8 hens are just fine with me!

I just thought he was trying to rip people off, and I wanted second opinions.
