(Feathering sexing of chickens by growth of feathers is done when you cross a Rapid Feathering Male (k+/k+) to a Slow Feathering Female (K/_w) as in a cross of a Leghorn Rooster over a Rhode Island Red Hen. In this breeding the offspring would be able to be Feather Sexed even at day of hatch. Cockerels would inherit the Slow feathering gene (K) from him mother and Pullets will inherit the Fast feathering gene (k+) from her father.
