Hi!

My four-month-old ISA Brown(??) is exhibiting some suspicious behaviors:
1) She started crouching about a week ago.
2) She keeps going in and out of the coop and nest boxes.
3) She seems a bit more restless than usual.
4) She is now sitting in the nest box while her sister goes in and out of the coop.

When's it coming?

Oh, and her sister is a bantam Cochin of the same age. When can I expect her first egg?

Thanks!

Apparently, yes! It is 37 grams. And she is eighteen weeks old. What do I do now? Do I switch to layer feed or just provide oyster shell? Her sister isn't laying yet. And does anyone know what breed she is? I am thinking ISA Brown... but she doesn't look as much like my ISAs.

Provide oyster shell on the side. If you'd prefer to use layer feed as well, I'd wait until they're all laying (if only a couple of birds) or mostly laying (if you have a larger group).
Thanks! Her only companion just laid her first egg today, which really surprised me since she is a bantam Cochin, and I’ve heard they don’t usually lay until a lot later. Dorothy also laid another egg today. All three eggs were fully formed and had shells. I haven’t cracked them open yet though.

I still have a fair amount of chick feed left, and I don’t plan to raise more chicks anytime soon, so I will probably feed them oyster shell on the side until the chick feed is gone.

Or maybe skip the layer feed altogether and just go with an all-flock feed and the oyster shell. When birds are not laying everyday the layer feed provides too much calcium, better to let them decide when they need calcium vs having it in the feed and forcing high amounts onto them.
