Are these Spaldings?

They are both spaldings. One male and one female. They both have very little "Green blood", but the female appears to possibly have a bit more of it than the male.. which looks practically no different than India Blue. My guess is he will mature out to looking same as a pure IB male, except crest may be not as full/fully fanned out and the barring on wings may be slightly different.

Even pure IB boys can and will have green on their necks when this young, to varying degrees. I would not use that as a identifying mark of a spalding. He does show spalding hint as his neck seems to show slightly the scaled look of higher percent spaldings.

IMO those both have less than 50% blood, as I've bred hybrids, pure green to pure Indian and all chicks looked far more "green" than either. The male maybe 25% at the most.. the female maybe 25% or a little bit more.

Kev, if you note in the last pic the green is just starting to come in, not like green from young blues. this bird will have some green in his neck as an adult.. Young blue male have the green feathers like a blue hen. They look more like 7 months old also

Agree the % of green would be more like 25%

No matter they are spalding.......

The birds are almost 6 months old (I hatched them out), Deerman you caught me on that one

. Here is a better pic of the males neck if it helps the conversation. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about providing heat for them.

They are spalding but have very little green blood in them I think 25% or less. I would not go by the brown on the hens chest to show a trait of spalding because I have hatch hens over the year out of splits that has no green blood at all show this trait. I just sold a hen today that was split to charcoal that had a brown chest her daddy was a charcoal male and the mother was either a blue hen spit charcoal or a blackshoulder silver pied none of these parent had any green at all in them and I have hatch them out of bronze split birds. I think when the male get older his neck will be mostly blue.

Doug I agree not much green, but they have the looks of spalding, The crest for sure shows spalding, what do you see that makes you think spalding ?
