Hen...

With my name (Robin) I've been called things "Sparrow" and "Blue Jay" many times, but I don't think I've ever been called "Hen" before.

For some reason that just tickled my funnybone!

Okay Miss_Jayne, here we go... 2 weeks old today.

This is the one that I photographed on the bookcase yesterday. "She" is the largest of the most feathered out ones. "She" also has a nice set of tail feathers.

This one is now the biggest of all the yellow/white chicks, a little bigger than my 19 day old EE & NHR. I'm suspecting it's a "he" due to those thick legs and his very visible comb. "He" is the most yellow, is the least feathered out, and has absolutely zero tail feathers.

This is the next largest most feathered out one.

And this is "Pipsqueak"... the smallest yellow/white... smaller than the EE & NHR... I do NOT think this one is a meatie.

Here are the two largest ones together (I really think they are a cockerel and a pullet -- look at the difference in their combs and "she" has all those tail feathers while "he" has NONE!)

If it helps, here's a picture of Greta when she was 9 days old for comparison. She looks similar in development to your 2 week old guys.

Unless my babies were abnormal giants, I don't think your chicks look like meaties!

I wish I had pics of them standing for better comparison. My chicks' legs looked like tree trunks compared to your little guys though. Also at two weeks, my chicks weren't that active, lots of snoozing and sleeping, and they had golf ball sized crops. LOL these days their crops are the size of baseballs.

Your chicks are super cute BTW, just look at those full crops, awwww!

Looking at the shape of their bodies, I really don't think they're leghorns. They look too massive to be leghorns. My white leghorns have always been more slight of build than that - more like Pipsqueak. They've always been some of my fastest to feather in, too. They have been mature enough by 16 weeks to start laying eggs. I'm still thinking yours are white rocks if they're not Cornish X.

The skin being stretched across the crop area with the down spread out a bit looks similar to my meaties, but they're not as massive. What are you feeding them? Just regular chick starter? My meaties are on 27% turkey starter, so they're probably growing a little extra fast.

3 out of 4 are broilers.... The pictures of the broilers from others are probably fed a broiler feed so naturaly they are going to grow faster than yours. What are you feeding a normal chick starter?

If so this explains the difference in size, but white rocks usually don't start to flesh out until about 12-14 weeks (befere this they look like a normal chick) and like you said most chicks have some gray in them.... and leghorns look kind of like your Pipsqueek.... Definately not a delaware as someone already showed why...

Good luck you will know for sure here by the third week.

ETA: OK this is weird... I typed in CHICK STARTER and it comes up hen starter? It won't let me fix it? When I go to edit it it says chick starter... Wow that is weird.

ETA: What the heck is hen starter? Why is the forum automatically changing this? CHICK starter...

They say it's because of a server upgrade, but I'm really believing it's an A p r i l F o o l ' s joke. A p r i l F o o l comes up as BYC Member, too... and e g g comes up as rooster! You ought to search for egg recipes - kinda funny!
