That sounds so fantastic! I would do it.

Are you planning on picking up a little pond pump to empty the moat when it needs it? Or maybe using some type of filter for the water? An attached little filter pond that flows into the moat with pond plants would look pretty, too. Maybe only if it was on the other side of a fence than the ducks, though, to keep the snacking down.
