Are we open to Criticism in BYC?

I personally dont care what others eat whether it be dog,cat etc as long as they eat it and not waste it...i cant stand people who waste food when theyre people who cant even find food to eat. The US is one of the worst. Heck people I live with are the ones that if its a day past expiration they toss it..me on the other hand seen someone throwing out perfectly good tv dinners, meat, ice cream and cookies etc after a relative past and I said id take it for my chickens ....me i was said chicken lol none of it was expired either. That person was also throwing out perfectly good dishes etc. Like whatever relative had they threw it out after they past

I believe in general people of all walks of life are not very open to criticism, mostly because it's often negative rather than constructive. If people would take the time to share information and ideas with others without being critical or judgmental it would most likely be much better received.
It is easier to be received if it is sugar coated but in real life we dismiss most of the criticism just because they were not polite and/or sugar coated.

Hi Canadian Wind:

I live in Orangeville. I used to live in a small town called Durham for 5 years (No relation with Durham Region) .
I also plan to save some money to buy my own acre or so of land to build my small hobby farm. It will take me between 3 to 30 years to get there depending on my resolution and luck and mother nature next move. ( hopefully no Covid ,no asteroid, No china attacking Taiwan) .
Since I am more than half a century old I plan to keep the duration close to 3 than 30 but who knows. I am used to enjoy the journey not destination out of necessity not choice.

Where are you at?
I live in the middle of nowhere! :D Quite literally. If you know where Perth is, I'm about 45 minutes north-west of there.

My daughter is the one that made this dream come true for me. I'm also over 50! She bought this property two years ago, ten acres of mostly woodlands but it used to be more agricultural. We're trying to get it back to that, at least partially. There's only about 1 acre of cleared land now.

When I first saw the place, I asked her when I could move in. Her reply was: we have a spare bedroom! A year after that, I got a camping trailer and parked it here, and have been living here since. I think sometimes she regrets it, mostly when I come home with more ducks, lol!

Based on personal experience both here on BYC and in life in general, no. A large number of people are not open to criticism in any form. They are locked into their world view by beliefs that have been so deeply ingrained in their minds that they will abandon reason, logic, and fact to stubbornly cling to them rather than admit they are incorrect. They will cling to their position no matter what and bend reality in such a way as to make themselves the victim and lash out at anyone or anything that causes them to consider alternatives.

These are the same kind of people who will not hesitate to tell YOU that you're doing something bad or wrong, mind you. Again, because their world view and beliefs tell them they are justified and have the right to do so. It's a vicious cycle. They are happy to dish it but get butt hurt when served a spoonful of their own medicine.

Here on BYC you can just ignore them. Not quite as easy in the real world. Unavoidable in either scenario, unfortunately.
