I have a mixed flock and my Barred Rock has always been the dominant hen. She even squared off against a fox and lived to tell the tale, although she didn't molt for over a year form the stress of it. She is also my best layer and will always have one in my flock. I hope you and your daughter enjoy her! My 11 year old is a chicken addict so watch out! You've made me and my 12-year old daughter (Eeyore's her adopted **daughter**) very happy! Thank you so much!! Hopefully she just acts that way because she's the alpha of their little pack
I'd give you all a big hug if I could and a dozen eggs (they're my most prized possession now, as I've got 2 laying hens).
Wait... does that mean I'm a grandmother?? OMG!
X2. I wouldn't celebrate JUST yet. Could be a girl, but my not-100%-pure barred rock chicks turned out with a LOT of dark barred boys. The sexing by color only works for the non mixes. Need a better pic of the comb - a big red comb at that age would make me think boy unless you are positive that's a purebred dom or BR.Well, I'm going to be the voice of dissent, mostly cause that is a lot of comb. Where did you get her? And can you please get a nice head shot, clear so we can see that comb better? I can't tell if it looks larger cause it's blurry or not. I agree the color looks pullet, but a black sex link cockeral would be the same color.
