So I am getting some fertile ayam cemani eggs and am going to hatch them to add my to silkie flock and ive just heard about the horrific thing that someone can steal chickens, and to be honest its scaring me a little. Im going to get a padlock for my chicken coop and all will be good. (The fencing is really strong and goes under ground) but are you guys afraid of thieves too? I kinda am...

In my area, not at all.

It does happen though. If it's something you worry about, put a little lock on all access doors. Most chicken thieves I've heard of only bother with access points for stealing the birds. They don't go through the trouble of cutting fence. After all - they're chickens. Most chickens stolen aren't exactly worth much as far as monetary value goes. Wouldn't be worth the effort to cut through a pen.

With most of mine, they would have to catch them first and even I can't catch most of them, and most of the watchable ones are too tiny to be worth taking for food.

More concerned about actual predators than humans now that the man camp from up the road is disbanded

No. The Army always warns people when they're going to do Robin Sage training and compensate people for chickens, etc.

I am confident that if I put up a sign requesting them to not touch any valued breeder birds that I might have they will take birds I'm willing to lose.

Other than Robin Sage, well, I live in the woods in rural NC where people *know* that livestock owners will react to a disruption with a shotgun in their hands because they expect a coyote.

Uhhh... whats robin sage training? and what do you mean not touch valued birds? Like they can just kill or torment your chickens?
