Oh I wish I still had cable TV & that doomsday preppers was on Aussie TV. My hubby would LOVE it!
My hubby has been preparing for an invasion by the Germans for years (well as a joke that is what he says!!!). 'Zeee Germans are cominggggg'
His list of essentials includes:
- Guns. As many as he can fit, hide, stash & obtain. Guns of all descriptions. He has enough for a mini armyWe always say that if war broke out we'd take a stand in our home! (sheesh... we sounds like rednecks!)![]()
- Rope. Never know what you might need rope for.
- A knife.
- Ammo
- Rum and Wine
I have noticed that his list of essentials is not as comprehensive as some. I mean... what am I meant to eat! Germans?
P.S - No offence to any Germans out there![]()
I'm watching the show right now...very good! Lots of good ideas..
This October we had a random, very nasty winter storm that put my state in chaos.. power down everywhere... lots of damage...
And the ONE thing i remember from it was...
The VERY next day all the gas stations in our SMALL town (5 of them) were out of gas... except ONE, and the police had it blocked off from the citizens, and were using it for their cruisers and the town vehicles.. (plows, etc,..)
Stores were shut down... no power,... so no food..
Scary to think how FAST your resources can be cut off... scary indeed,..ONE day!!...
It was winter, we were freezing COLD,.. we had no heat because we had no electricity to start our furnace...
We had foster children that we were responsible for... the state didnt not even call ALL week long to see if the kids were alive or frozen.. we had to handle it on our own. NO concern at all... they were all shut down and trying to stay warm at their own houses..
It was dark and cold and to be honest i was a bit scared by it all..
We lost cell/phone service for a while, no way to contact our family members or call for help..
We DID have plenty of food though, thanks to my couponing...
And we had a small generator... so we could keep our freezers going... 2 hours for one freezer,... unplug,.. 2 hours for the next freezer... so we didnt lose our food.
Finally my smart husband figured out how to splice/wire our generator to our furnace system so we had heat..(that was my BIG worry, no heat. I was starting to panic inside because i was so cold and i had these kids to protect)
Scary, and i dont want to feel that way again...
The one thing we ARE doing this summer is installing a wood stove for heat, incase this ever happens again...
Being freezing cold and having no heat scared the CRAP outta me...
