Are you "ready for HD TV?"

For those interested go to www.dtv2009.gov and apply for a coupon. Once coupon arrives take it to walmart and get the box for $13.00. I applied for one since my oldmans job burned down and didn't know how tough things were going to get but we all know the satelitte would be one of the first things to go.

We found out on thursday that the company will continue to pay full paychecks until the end of February. So far not one pay check missed since the plant burned.

I'm not too far from that. My computer is my main form of entertainment. I went at least 6 months without watching tv. I would rent movies but no cable, satellite or local watching. Just watch the movies on the computer. I finally plugged in one of our two older smaller tvs to get the local channels for our winter weather.

Like you said, you can get all that stuff on the radio or the interwebs. Or, you could get a MAC mini/tv and hook it up to your tv.

I wanted to throw the tv's out when we moved in here... DH said no. He wanted cable. Now that our cable bill has doubled, we're planning to get of them.

I cannot believe they are charging us $80 for under 99 channels.... Outrageous considering I only watch the Discovery channel.

We got the converter box for my daughters room, and a rabbit ears digital antenna for about $15. She now gets over 20 channels in her room. Up from the 3 channels she got before adding the converter box. Was worth it to us, I guess its just up to everyone how important it is to them. Like getting local news (for storms ect.)

I saw online that Obama is asking for a delay in making the switch. Why are they make this happen in the first place? What is wrong with the way it is now? I also saw on then news that the government has run out of money for the cards to help buy the converter boxes! That means ALOT of people still have the older televisions and are ordering the cards to cover the expense!

Hello! Does not take a scientist to figure out they should leave it the way it is! GEEZZ!!!

Okay... I'm not up to par on the news obviously... I know everything is going digital in Feb but I didn't read into it.

If my tvs are already digital, I just need digital bunny ears to get channels? I can ditch my cable?

I think it depends on where you are located and how strong the digital signals are near you. We live in a very small town, but have 3 large cities near us. She is picking up channels from different cities, so 3 different nbc channels, 3 different abc channels ect. I believe they are switching to digital because they want to free up the analog airspace for other things. Not sure what that means at all, lol. Just what I got out of the article I read.
