Is your cat afraid of chickens?

My house cat is afraid for good reason. My house chicken (long story) frightens him as the cat -- who was born without eyes -- has no idea when or where she will leap down onto him in completely unprovoked attacks.

My cats and chickens used to do just fine, but then I got a new silkie cockerel who doesn't like them, and he'll face off with the kitties. I guess he got the better of them once, because the cats now give him and the hens a wide berth.

My cat took to ambushing my RIR rooster every couple weeks. They'd have a wrestling match, then leave each other alone until the rooster decided to get cocky again.

He's decided my speckled Sussex rooster is in need of the same treatment. So far, the cat is winning.

I don't have pet cats, just random feral cats that show up that I feed. My chickens will run the feral cats off their food bowls if they have the chance.
I was wondering about feral cats & chickens. I live in the suburbs, we have many strays and ones with homes that wander. We let our birds free range on our back portion of the lot during the day (we also have cameras on them so we can watch them when we are working). This morning I noticed a cat sitting on one side of the bush with the chickens on the other not seeming to notice or care about each other. The cat ran when I went out there, the girls were a bit annoyed.
It was odd that they saw the cat but didn't care. I guess this cat didn't pose a threat to them.

The two cats I have now are different. One of them likes to look at the chickens way up close, but she's cautious. The other will not get near them at all.

I voted "somewhat" because of that.

Also, cats I have fostered in the past are terrified of young pullets. LOL

Yeah the cats around me have never been an issue. Now I wouldn't put it past them to snag a chick if I have chicks around. Our feral friends are all great mousers and then I also feed them kibble. So I really don't think they are desperate enough to go after a chicken.
