ya know .... oddly enough they almost never poop on me

My babies are:
One black giant jersey
one black cochin
one white americana
one new hampshire red
one buff orphington
one showgirl or naked neck I don't know the difference.
three silkies-white,blackish and buffish .I've been wondering what makes a good "quality "silkie .I hope ,I hope these are girls!!!

I had raised a buff laced polish who turned out to be a rooster and had to get rid of him because of the noise and he started to get mean. He was cute,plus... I'm residental and didn't want to take the chance of getting in trouble. I think we can have chickens but the rooster is considered a noise problem. Well it's not the chickens it's the coop we are just finishing up.. I think we would have to get a permit.... I have 22 hens and 1 roo....They are different breeds.. I have a couple that are so friendly that I have to watch where I walk. They stay up under me and I have stepped on them before. No injuries thank goodness. My roo is friendly.. He just does not want to be picked up...I can and do from time to time just to check him over and remind him I am boss....... I hand feed them treats and if I sit down they get real close some get on my legs...I do not let them around my head.....Had one try to get an ear ring once...Kinda freaked me out....So I just held them as chicks and talked to them as much as possible. I also have a radio playing from the time they are small...That makes them a little calmer I think.......

I do have one attack chicken.....She is the one that will hide and pop out to bite you...... She loves toes......

I've never met a chicken that didn't like toes. The toes look like grubs, I'll bet. Especially if you wiggle them when you're trying to curl them out of a chicken's reach.

Our first batch of chicks were sweet and liked to be held until they were big enough to go in the coop but they will take treats from me I just don't hold them or pick them up unless I have reason to catch them.

Our second batch hated us from the start acted all crazy everytime we came near to change water and feed= they were really scared of us. But the barred rock was a little curious. When they went into the coop the barred rock would jump into my lap and always comes up to greet me and ask for some treats. But She does not let me hold her and is still skittish sometimes. I think it depends on the chickens. I think if we spent more times with the big girls when they went into the coop they would be more friendly. The younger ones - I am not sure what I could have done differently because we treated them all the same.

I have friends who have sweet chickens that love to be handled and cuddled. Mine just don't.

all my older girls are tame almost a year old in january and my 2 year olds are tame and my ten week olds are tame and most of my 8 week olds are tame i have 3 that are just scared of everything so im hoping they will learn how to not be so scared and be tamer to like hold all the others let me hold them but these three arent that much into it.

They are all for the most part tame and just like almost everyone says, it really depends on their own personality.

I was so glad to see others mention the fact that they tame up more after they start to lay. I noticed that with my last 2 girls. Anyone know why that is??

Mine also come a runnin when they see me-especially if I have a container of some sort. GOODIES!!!

I can also call to them if I don't see them (we have 15 wooded acres) usually one of them will call back and let me know "everythings ok, we're over here"

They also MUST get into anything you are doing. If my Hubby is cutting wood with the chop saw- as soon as he's done they are all over the saw(or whatever).

Our BO hen (18-19weeks) is friendly, used to hop in laps but is a little more standoffish now...hoping that will subside when she starts laying. OUr EE and 2 of our Silkies aren't opposed to the idea, and the other 3 Silkies are lunatics and nothing works. They were all raised about the same, some handled more than others, which is making me wonder how much handling the chickens when they are babies really mattered....

I have one that's really tame - the Red Star. She was the friendliest even as a chick. We also have an Egyptian Fayoumis, she acts more like a wild bird. She's mellowed out over the winter but when she's out ranging in the back yard she won't have anything to do with me. And then there's Shadow. She bites.

Even though I have 5 hens of 5 different breeds, I doubt it's totally in the breed. Except for the Fayoumis. Man, I could just imagine her getting away from a crocodile. I saw her chase a neighbor's cat out of the yard once.
