are your dogs and chicken friends

mine are not friends....-_- Sadly. My Golden Retreiver, Ginger, bit my chicken Jaguar (EE) and she currently has a small patch of featherless back. :( Wish that they loved e\o though!!

What a cute pic! no, there not... they have no contact with them, though i almost died the one day when the yappy small dog was barking at the one girl clucking(the door to the coop was open) and she pecked him on the nose!

otherwise i find if they get loose on me, the dogs just act all kinds of stupid with them, i think it's because the chickens are more flighty and noisy than the duck, the ducks there very good with and will generally ignore them.

I think though, you always have to watch i don't 100% trust any of them with any of the birds, you just never know. They can get carried away.

Moose is the protector of our chickens, he is also a very accomplished duck retriever. He has fought off a neighbor hood lab that got around the gate. We don't allow our chickens to free range unless Moose is out with them.

We're new to chickens, but our dog loves them.. They are okay with him, but they are also still young and may find his size a little intimidating.. They are of course free range, but we will bring them in the front yard with the dog to play and he just tries to heard them.

Can't find anything new with him hearding them, but this was their first meeting.. He is so gentle with them (a little clumsy at times, but we keep our eyes on them).

My great dane Milly is very good with all of our smaller critters..a bunny, 4 cats and the baby chicks still in the brooder. She is getting better with our hens..The coop is on the way back of our property(about 1.5 acres), and we have the entire thing fenced in..When we put the fence in, we made it so there were multiple yards. The chickens have about 20X30 area that is fenced in with 6 ft chicken wire, but a couple of the girls fly out into the main yard...and sometimes we let them all out to free range the whole property. Milly used to chase them bad and it made my heart skip beats each time, but she has a very good leave it. We used to compete in obedience, but sometimes the flying and squawking is too much...I have been working hard on desensitizing her to this and she has gotten pretty good..I would love it if I could ;leave her with them and they'd snuggle up like the picture below. For now, I never let them out of my sight when she is out with them.Does anyone have any suggestions?

Here is a pic witha RR baby///reminds me of the book "Are you my Mother?" :)

I have two Chihuahuas and a Spitz (American Eskimo). They co-mingle with my hens when they free range and I have never had a problem. The Spitz will sneak in the run to steal chicken food if I don't close the door quickly enough, but has never bothered the girls and they ignore him. One of the Chihuhuas does take a keen interest in a little 11 week old that was recently given to my husband. I feel like she is stalking it and would pounce on it if given the chance. I would never leave any of my dogs alone with any of my chickens. It is just not worth the risk.

My Buster dog absolutely loves "His Girls" we can be in the other room and all I have to say is, "How's your girls?" He will run to the brooder and watch to see if anything is wrong. In fact the chair you see him setting on is a permanent fixture by the box just for him.
