Yep, it was definitely foam. Albeit only a small bit. Ill take a pic if i see any more, strange that it only happened once. I know what it looks like though, i used to have loads of quail before the mink got them.... Lucky and Gerry are around the same age, around 10 months, but Jacob is a lot older, almost 2 years old now i think. Jacob and Lucky both had their flocks killed by a mink last year. I had the two on their own for a while, but they started calling and responding to each other (so cute). I decided to put them in the same cage for a couple of hours a day, to try it out, even though they are different species. They got on well with each other immidiately, and i've kept them together since. They have been together for almost a year now, and they have never fought before, so i reckon it must be to do with spring hormones
.
They were having a bit of a scrap this morning, but not as bad as before. I've decided to give Jacob a time out for a while, as she started it, so i've separated them.
The cage is a ferplast 120, which i think is big enough for all of them, its something like 120x 60x 50cm (LxWxH), and I let them outside when it's warm in an absolutely huge run (seriously, it's massive, and kitted out with loads of hid-ey holes and plants and stuff). So i'm not sure if space is the problem...
You may be right about Gerry. Strangely enough I got her as a husband for jacob because I thought she was a male...all the quail had feathers missing from their heads except her. The only problem is i have SEEN 'her' lay an egg. I knew someone who had a kind of hermaphrodite quail...it had male and female sexual organs. I wonder if Gerry is like that....
Also, sorry to say this, but Lucky is a African Harlequin hen... it's easy to mistake without some sort of scale, as she looks pretty much exactly like a pharoah coloured hen, but she is about half the size.
Thanks for the help so far y'all
