ARGH! What is a good external HD?

I have 80 to 100gigs on each of my machines but I wanted a main backup place for some things like digital photos etc.

I have a LACIE external hard drive. 500 gigs. I paid $99 for it.

I bought my husband something much more fancy with a bigger price but his doesn't work any better than mine. I think I have the better deal. lol
