Are they missing or are they just taking bites out of them? May be they found two legs and are being walked out?

Oh that stinks. We have deer munching right now, but the biggest offenders on the tomatoes has been the wild birds and squirrels.

When I lived in Austin, a friend grew the prettiest tomatoes ever. He finally shared his secret- red Christmas ornaments! He hangs them on his tomato plants early, the critters investigate and give up by the time he has real tomatoes!

You've still got time to replant. Sorry for the loss, but get back out there!

Red, sounds like you have cutworms?

My chickens have found a way over our 3' fence and have taken about three dozen tomatoes. ARGH.

Not if you're a caterpillar! Tomato hornworms, cutworms, all kinds of bugs can eat the plant. I've never tried it, so I don't know if they're poisonous to humans or not.

My ducks do that.
And when I had chickens they would beak each and every tomato they could reach.
