Arizona backyard chickens - now legal

Perfect, thanks again! I'm planning my coop now, and I can't wait to get started.

Anyone know if it's hard to get anyone to take any roosters that I get accidentally?
It can be. We had a cockerel earlier this year that I sadly had to cull since we couldn't find a home for him. He had a great personality and would have been a splendid rooster. We miss him.

You have to be a bit careful when rehoming boys because cock fighting is illegal but still goes on here. They are always looking for freebie "training" birds which is a terrible fate for any rooster.

The nine chicks we got from Inspire were all female as promised, if that helps any.

“Gov. Katie Hobbs has signed into law House Bill 2325, which prevents a city from making an ordinance that bans backyard chickens at a single-family home.

The bill allows residents to have up to six chickens in their backyard. The coop, which must be cleaned twice a week, can be a maximum of 200 square feet and up to 8 feet high.”

No roosters allowed. Hobbs signed the bill on May 21, and it takes effect 90 days from that date.

After the 90 days, us city people can have backyard chickens in Arizona… legally 😂
Does this law pertain to ducks as well? I can't find anything anywhere about keeping ducks in maricopa residential area.

Woohoo! Thanks for posting this.

I don't think I've seen a chicken coop 8' high. 8' high and 200 sq ft would give you 1600 cubic feet for six chickens. 😲
My coop is 8' 6" high and 16' x 24', making it 384 square feet. I'm working on fencing in a run area, for a total area of 900 square feet. But then, I live in a very rural area.

The town meeting is next Tues 8/20/24.
Once downloaded, the ordinance regarding fowl (and rodents) starts on pg 39 of 1037. So discouraging!

Before I built the coop, I asked my neighbors if they minded. They did not object and said that dogs are much noisier than chickens.
I am wondering what type of rodents folks would keep outdoors?
