Arizona Chickens

This is my worm bin

Equipped with stackable trays, the Can-O-Worms can house up to 20,000 worms. Each unit features a tap drain on the bottom tray to collect compost tea. The system is self-harvesting. The worms eat their way up, leaving their rich castings (worm manure) behind. Made from durable 100% recycled plastic, the Can-O-Worms stands approximately 29” tall and 20” in diameter.

.. This is what I have.. It makes worm tea so the holes are only small enough for moisture to drip through. Maybe I could just duck tape like suggested..

I can really treat my chicks housing 20,000 worms at one time.. Yummy. The earth worms, I started with three thousand. I

It just dawned on me that I put eggs under my broody hens on the 26th. I don't know why, but I was under the impression that I stuck them under the chickens on the 1st. That means they should hatch tomorrow! I went out to look, I can hear the eggs peeping!

Our new chicks are doing great! Thanks for asking. Last night we put them all outside in the big dog crate with the light, and they did super! They were in the little cage about 4 hours before the poop was unbearable, so we knew it was time to upgrade. We are already seeing that the bantams are more lovey and calm than the standards. I guess that is why they make such good pets!

TT!, you're posting again! Did you take and pass your test? What? You couldn't feed them to the chickens?

I wholeheartedly agree with Bob's Henhouse, the worm tea and castings REALLY make a huge difference in the plants. In fact, I have a red wiggler colony set up just to provide material to add to my potting mix for new seedlings. It really is amazing how the plants respond to it. My problem now is I left my worm colony outside over winter and I think I lost most of them in the freezes. I looked a couple days ago and there were only a few in there, so it's going to take some time to get the population built up again.

Constance, that sounds like a great price for the mealworms. I have read some mixed reviews on BYC from others ordering from Petco, but if they guarantee them, why not give 'em a try, especially at that price! Do they ship to your house or do you have to pick them up from Petco?

Anyone else in the Tucson area want to go in on a batch of mealworms? arizonadreamer?
