Where in AZ are you? I'm in Cochise County, and have Australorp x Delaware chicks available. "Rent-A-Hen" services available for chicken newbies!

Thank you so much, Laree!!

Constance: I'm in for a combined order on vaccines, and I have two friends that probably would go in on it, too. So we'd need 12 of each total. I'll PM ya!

I listed my extra chicks on CL, already have 4 emails interested...if they come through, the chicks will all be spoken for. Yay! And they all sound like serious chix owners. I was worried I'd get some yahoos.

You know, if these can be refridgerated for a month or are shelf staple, I should get a round too. I' going to do MUCH better on my next hatch, starting very shortly after this one.

Start with rubbermaid (or sterlite or whatever one you ike best). Use cage wire or hardware cloth to make a lid. As the birds get older, use 1/2 x 1 or 1x1 cage wire to make a cage. If the chicks are large fowl, you may be able to use 1x2 wire.

What would you recommend for the bedding? Some say sand, some say natural dirt, others think fine shavings. I can't decide.

Start with an old handtowel (with the nap for grip), after a few days change to shavings. Depending on the number of babies, you may need to clean a couple or three times per day. I don't like sand with babies.
