Arizona Chickens

Quote:
Mine have developed the habit of "hanging around" the back door, and getting obnoxiously vocal when they see either a person or a dog. . . .poor dog, his doggy door is right next to the people back door, and he gets mobbed whenever he goes out. . . . .Those chooks have concluded that "THE HOUSE" is the source of all good things to eat!

Cap1717, My chickens knock on the back door.

:lau:lau I think you are correct about where all the good things to eat come from.

Good Morning Arizona, Hope everyone has a super day today. Looks like the wind has settled down, so that I can get some digging done today. Still working on the pen.

Blckbrn, Did You ever have a cabin in Forest Lakes? I knew some folks with same name and was just wondering if it might be you.

Angie, so glad your DH got that job.

Hi Pati and AZ chicken keepers! I am still reeling from the excitement of my first egg (last sunday) from my 24 week old Barred Rock. . . the other 3, a 24 / 25 week old RIR, and 2 EE's, a week or so younger, are still "slackers". . . judging from comb color, the RIR should be next. . .

The Barred Rock operates like clockwork. . . . 1 egg, one "perfect", light brown, medium/ small egg, each and every afternoon. . . .I am so proud of her. . . . .

I
thought this one was amusing....if a little scary.

EDITED: there was also a post for a free buff brahma pullet who's siblings had been eaten by the family dog. I'd love to rescue her, but the posting must have been flagged (no free animals on CL) because it is missing now. That or someone adopted her. Maybe someone here picked her up?

Yuma AZ Here!

Yuma, the crown jewel of the AZ Desert, home to the Territorial Prison, where the Colorado and Gila rivers meet.

We have chickens for pets, in town, and have for years, though we took a few years off when my son was born, well, that was 18 years ago!

I see there are other Yumas here, we are looking into starting to hatch eggs, so if anyone has some eggs they are willing to part with, I am seeking them.

My daughters want to do the 4-H thing, so if anyone has a handle on that, shoot me a PM. I was saddened by the last Yuma County Fair, when less than half of the chicken cages were full, normally, they fill that whole building. I guess rasising livestock isn't something kids are interested in anymore.

Living in the city, I can't deal with roosters. I can give away my extras, but I would like a "stud" service if possible.

I love chickens, great pets but at least carry their weight by producing eggs.

Welcome budkingston! Yes, kids need to get back into raising livestock, showing them at the fair, be responsible for taking care of them, and getting away from the TV and computer games. Hope you have a great time getting back into the chicken business. It is great!
