So, do they eat the sausage after it thaws?

Well you know that dust storm wouldn't have happened if all the construction people would spray down the dirt they disturb. HA HA! just kidding. Good news is my coop and anti wild bird garden set up made it through the storm, bad news is the peach tree has seen better days.

So, no one has asked WHY these poor chicks ended up in the triage unit at Laree's. It's because I am an IDIOT!!!!! Apparently the frozen banana is much more curious! But I will tell you the story anyway...

Had some chickies hatch, but whoops, the brooder/growout pen still has chicks in it that are(were) 5 weeks old and I couldn't put my new darlings in there to be pecked to death. Couldn't put them in a box in the garage like I normally would, surely would cook them into nuggets and we NEVER brood chicks in the house(hubby) or I become a big nugget. So I call Laree in a panic, her brooder is empty, take chicks to her house and in the 15 minute drive there, A/C blasting, we end up with half dead chicks. I am beside myself, cursing like a sailor fresh off the boat under my breath, and we have TWO Icelandics in there! The first two to hatch from eggs laid in AZ. No pressure to save them at all. Did I mention that one of the Icelandics has feathered shanks?

So after the next hatch in 2 weeks, it may be safe to say I am done hatching for the summer. Far to stressful. Maybe New Year's Hatch.

Thanks for sharing! I can just see your face: all excited about the hatch and then OOPS!
I have much less strict rules imposed on me (

). As long as the peeps don't end up in the bedroom I get a 48 hr emergency window to find a more suitable location than inside the house.

Well after that emergency I suspect we'll see a pie depicting an ambulance or a fire truck baked by the famous Laree-Pastrymama bakery...

I have my first stink eye broody hen, Mama Cass!

Haven't had a broody before, so I'm reading up on it - LOL! She has one of her eggs and one of Priscilla's eggs in with her. I was pecked at and bit quite a bit in order to look.

Oh, and here are some of my Serama babies that are 1 - 2 days old
