Arizona Chickens

There are no admission fees for general viewers. I have been to this show for the past 2 years and haven't seen any baby chicks or eggs for sale. There are usually several different breeds of chickens for sale, as well as, ducks, geese, turkeys, etc. There are usually around 1200 entries, so you will see a variety of birds.

I am being strong! NONONONONO!

Enjaytoo- I am thinking that Lint might end up being a girl after all. It has little spur nubbins, but so do some of my hens. So I dunno. Lint's behavior is very...submissive? Even the OEGB hens push Lint around a little. I was worried, but then it took up residence inside the cinderblocks: either under the water dish in the morning, under the food dish in the afternoon. Lint seems content. I am hoping once the big boys go away, Lint will be willing to participate more.

Fricken: no issues. He even postured at the neighbor's turkey this morning. (Turkey came over the wall again)

If you think they are cute, go on down to Western Ranchman and take a look at their brand new "fuzzy butts". . . (mean, aren't I

I'm amazed at the different prices for feed etc....

Just spent some time on the phone for the feed stores closest to my home.

Take a look: (I don't have chicks or juvies now so I didn't get prices on starter or grower) everything is for 50 lbs.

I can't believe how EXPENSIVE Pratt's is for everything and from what I've seen they sell sick birds.

The game bird feed didn't really vary in quality, it's all 22 or 23% protein.

To get the best price on EVERYTHING... I'd have to drive all of the valley...

Check it out.. maybe you folks in the East Valley can post your prices...

Mahonri~ You are right about Pratt's. Sad situation there. As for the gamebird feed, Mark got me some Manna Pro Gamebird/Showbird crumbles from The Feed Barn that was 26% on the protein. It was in a yellow bag with a blue banner across the top of the bag with a picture of a pheasant and a cochin roo on the front. Mark said it was only a dollar more than the lay crumbles and I needed it to help some tail feather growth on the reds. I saved the bag with the tag just in case you want other info off of it. I originally said in PM that this was 28% but I was mistaken after I rechecked.

... I may check out San Tan Feeds when I go down this weekend back to my old 'hood. I'm starting to agree about Pratts, I miss the older gentleman Dave, he was there years ago and was always so helpful and kind....helped me pick out my very first straight run chicks and he was dead-on for pullets

LareePQG-- So glad to hear about Fricken and Lint... I get a kick out of those names you know

Hope everyone is well, I am personally planning on going to the show in Tucson in a few weeks so that should be fun.

Pratt's has really changed. It is more of a pet store now. They used to sell all sorts of farm stuff, now it is mostly pet oriented. I think they are just adapting to the urban environment. The prices are higher, but people will pay it. On the plus side, they always have Spanish speaking help, and they carry the heavy stuff out to the truck for me. I can't walk very well now days.

It is a different store now that the old folks are gone.
