I'll bet they could grow it year-round there. Mine have survived mild frosts but always died in the worst freezes of the year. If you're interested in growing some there are 8 varieties in the seed box that is headed your way soon.

Thanks for all the feedback on the okra! If anyone cares to share recipes, I'm game to try it! I love the plant...I bought it 'cuz it was pretty.

. The fact that it was edible was a plus, too!

No rain here but at 6:45PM we left an outdoor wedding reception at the Wright Reception Center in Mesa that was about to get poured on. Glad we went (and left) early.

I'm in Mesa, (Gilbert & Brown), and not only is it raining, it's starting to sound like hail .... AND I just got home from Tempe and there were no streetlights, the traffic light was out on Brown AND there was a huge tree in the middle of the road (almost ran into it because of the lack of streetlights).

Got home and DH said there'd been a power outage right before I got home.

So we're in the middle of it!

Look who followed us home today! Two adorable little Serama/Silkie crosses

NurseShelly, it was so nice to meet you and your son, and Elvis, of course. (Can't leave out the King!)

The little ones are all settled in our guest bathroom. They cried for Phyllis a little, but seemed content to take cuddle breaks with us

Mahonri,
they'll be coming your way if all goes well. These chikies have an unbelievable personality! And they are growing very fast. Now at ca. 6 weeks they are nearly the size of aurorarose's 16 week old ameraucanas

Cucumber?

Cantaloupe?

I'm gonna second the cucumber, Ive got a couple of okra plants that anyone can have if they want and if the hail didn't destroy them. My wife actually called me stupid the day i planted them, very pretty blossoms though. I'd probably like okra/gumbo, the only "soul food" I've ever had was at Mrs. Whites in Phx, very good.
