Good Morning Arizona. Had to show you what i have watched the past 2 evenings. Love AZ.

New hatch, that is so great. I just love the new babies. Congrats.

Mahonri - Congrat's on the successful hatch! I would like some blue egg layers some day. Do they lay regularly? In heat? In winter? Are they friendly or skittish or flighty or mean or shy?

Patti - I have only lived in AZ for few years. All my life my mother has told me, and still does, with a happy sigh, "Arizona has the most beautiful sunsets in the world." She grew up here.

I would like to know too. I always wait 2 weeks, but if they weren't chicken/people babies, they would eat whatever they found on outings with momma chicken, right?

ETA: AT LEAST 2 weeks...because they have always been inside. I give yogurt, eggs, and cooked oatmeal when they are little. Once they went into the old brooder, I couldn't control what got kicked into their cage.

ArizonaDesertChicks - I love the picture of the chickens with the dog. I'm surprised he is nice to the chickens, what a great dog :) I love the African Sumac tree... there is one at the U of A arboretum that we love, we have been keeping an eye out for a little one to buy.

I had the pics on my New Years Day Hatch thread, but I'll post them again here for your enjoyment...

This is just a sample of the total hatch and in this pics they were still fluffing out.

Hi there!
I had to ask someone because I couldn't figure out how to reply. (Taking me a bit of time to get the hang of this.)
I am in Glendale. Thanks for letting me know the chickens are affected by the cold weather. I didn't realize that. Is there something besides making sure they are warm that helps them or will they start laying after it warms up a bit?

Thank you. I found it after I asked someone to help me manuver through the blog. Ooops... I am learning!
I'll ask my husband what kind of chickens he would like to get. First I have to figure out what we have since I didn't even think to ask... silly me. We need to build another coop since the one we have is too small for the number of chickens we would like to have. I'm wanting a dozen eggs a week for us and then some to sell. I'll let you know.
Thanks for answering my questions and welcoming me to the forum!
