Arizona Chickens

The way I see it:
I used a LOT of left over materials to build the coop and then the never ending accessory structures (I just ignore tha fact that homer got involved as well). So basically I am cleaning up the lot while putting together yet another chicken related structure! How could anybody have a problem with getting the piles of old stuff decimated!? I still have materials left. I need to go build something else - for the chickens

.

The only problem you are going to have is if you miss balancing time spent for chickens with time spent on control tower related issues. Some special attention needs to be directed away from the chickens towards the control tower. And no, chicken embroidered kitchen towels will not do the trick.

Well it is that time of year again and temps are down to almost reasonable (actually my favorite range) in the Sonoran Desert and the hens and pullets have started laying like crazy and food intake is way up from last month

Misters are put up and the upcoming days forecast to be in 90s is a cake walk for our girls.

Have a few molting and picked up a couple more of the balding rescue birds (7 now), but other than that all is just peachy...

Hope you all are seeing the same

Edit for can't count either....

I knew we were getting close. Today I noticed a banty hen sneak off by herself, after looking all around behind the feed tubs. I found her behind a bunch of stuff in the utility shed. Left her alone and heard an egg-laying squawking sound about an hour later.
Came out and found this lovely egg!

Now, if only the big hens will start laying, we can actually eat some omelettes!
What should I do with this cutie? I think I'll wait for a couple more and fry them. My other banty hen looks like she's within days as well, doing the same nesting behaviors. I wish they would use the little nesting bucket I made special for them, though.

My son's afraid to eat it because it might be fertilized. My husband took some convincing, for some reason he didn't think you could eat banty eggs???!!!

City boys, I tell you what!
Wait until I move my husband out into the country, he's in for the shock of his life!

I feel for ya. My #1 ( and only, so far) spent the night with us and was up with the chickens! ( Mommy and Daddy were celebrating their 3rd anniversary)

Ahhh So cute!! Beautiful Pictures!! Isn't being a Grandma the best?? Love on them for a couple of days and then give them back....just perfect.

Thanks. It is fun to have a little one around again. I actually watch him every Friday while Momma is at work. I take pics of our day and Cooper "emails" momma before she comes to get him. He is at a great age now. Babbles, laughs and screeches! He grabs for everything and anything. He loves to grab the dog and pull on her ears...good thing she doesn't mind.

Gather the cost of other hobbies: golf, car racing, even joining a gym such as Lifetime Fitness, etc., and you will be able to show her it is MUCH less expensive.

Hey, it's gotta be less expensive than welders and supplies.

But I guess that's your living. My husband's welder cost way more than my coop. What does she like to do?

CA - we are of one mind on that account! Our time spent together building the coop is invaluable!

Hmm...I'm not completely sure, but somehow I don't think that was what she ment. Perhaps spending time on UN-chicken related activities might be helpful.
