I have no idea but you might want to post in Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures.

I did...it's poultry lice! How the heck do they get them? Wild birds? Wild field mice creatures?

Birds, yes, mice, no/ Lice are pretty species specific, and the lice that birds get do not like the taste of mammals; and vice versa. Mites are less picky.

Hubby just got here & I had him help me...there are bugs on my poor Serama. How do I get rid of these things??? Some are like I described earlier & some are a tanish color. DE? Sevin?

Sounds like lice.

Use sevin dust, Adams Flea/Tick spray for dogs--preferably the one with an insect growth regulator, or ivermectin pour-on. DE will do nothing for an infestation.

I thought that Ivermectin does not work on lice? Quote: "Ivermectin pour on is quickly absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream. It'll kill mites, but not lice. Lice dont suck blood, mites do." (BYC user and pest expert dawg53)

I think you will find it is the other way around Lice suck blood from your chickens and Mites eat plant or animal substances, decaying organisms, and humus, and also infest stored food products such as cheese, meat, grains, and flour. .....

Hm! That sounds extremely reasonable

. I shall try it myself someday. Although I am not trying to encourage my birds to pick up hitchhikers just so I can run an experiment.

I think I have to trim the rear deflector shield up about an inch or so. (Raise the height of the feed inside)

It is 1-3/4 from the bottom (that's how much feed get's through) and the feed level is too low.

They have to reach in so far (about 4") that some of the peepers/cluckers perch on the edge of the lip insert instead of the treadle.

Needless to say when their flock-mates hop off of the treadle, they get a surprise!

Anne! I'm way behind but hey!!!!! Honored to be the post that brought you out of lurkdom. Everybody, Anne was my neighbor (my EXCELLENT neighbor) across the street from me for about 10 minutes last year when we moved in. She is MUCH too precious to lose so we keep up as best we can.

The mites we find in our coops and sometimes on the hens actually are feeding on the dander, feathers, and other stuff much as the mites in our homes we do not see do....

Lice on our hens are also similar to the lice people get especially school kids and live by sucking small amounts of blood, but humans can not get chicken lice as they do not like our flavor I guess....

OK...so Sevin dust for the coop/run, ivermectin pour-on for the chickens, then spray them after they're dry...sound like that should do it? I'm guessing that I'm going to have to do this for all 3 coops/runs...if the wild birds dropped their frineds in one coop, they probably dropped some in all the coops...right?
