that's 3 strikes, I'm OUT! 2 russian orloff roos and 1 silkie roo.

Maybe he'll be a silent rooster? Or, a transvestite?

Sometimes the less dominant of roosters in a flock do not crow...at least only rarely crow.

well, i guess i need to get some silkie eggs and join the NYD hatch. all 3 of my roos have homes up in cottonwood(a real home, not a stewpot) and my kids are upset. of course, they want to keep them all until they crow, i'd rather not even open that can of worms with my neighbors again. i'm sad to see the little silkie go, it's so funny. oh well.

Bill, we definitely have great horned owls here. We had a couple hanging around most of last year and early this year, then they were gone for a while, but I just heard them starting a few days ago again. DRAT! They were so brazen as to sit on my back porch and watch the babies until they decided which one they wanted! I have pics. At the old place, where I still have about 1/3 of my flock, (yes, I'm STILL moving) the girls quit going into the coop at night, preferring to sleep under the stars, or on top of the run instead of in the run on their perches. I have to round them all up though when the owls are about. At the new place they have to stay cooped up, or in the run until they figure out it is home now and must return to it at night. I'm still working on getting the nest boxes and roosts finished.

Question:

My Serama rooster that had the lice (ewwww

) is still unable to stand on his own. I can prop him up & he'll kinda stand on his feet, but then he falls over. Is this normal? Is there something else that I need to be doing?

I brought his girlfriends to my office/shop & gave them DAWN baths as well. I will powder them with Sevin today (I can't find it anywhere in a powder form, only granule). They are now my new house-birds. I will set them outside in the grassy area by my office during the day while I'm there.

Thanks for any advice...

We had a roo with mites that couldn't stand, only lay on his side. It took a couple of weeks before he was up and around after killing the little buggers. Then we powdered him about every 10 days or so to prevent any recurrence. He's still a little slow and not really spry, but hugely improved, wandering around on his own and eating.

Anne! I'm way behind but hey!!!!! Honored to be the post that brought you out of lurkdom. Everybody, Anne was my neighbor (my EXCELLENT neighbor) across the street from me for about 10 minutes last year when we moved in. She is MUCH too precious to lose so we keep up as best we can.

You should kick that other idiot out

and have Ann move back!

What a PERFECT solution! We'll put a gate in the wall and have chickens in my yard (communal) and the pool in her yard! Anne! Anne!

Thanks Bob! He'll be my buddy for a few more days, then I'll put him back in with his girls. Maybe that'll motivate him

Oh...and get this: HE is the only one with bugs. I bathed both girls & didn't see a single bug on them. How weird is that?

*edited cuz I wanted to...

Ace Hardware sells sevin powder. I don;t know how well the granules will work--they are much less concentrates, and being granular don't seem like they would spread around as well. Might also try permethrin dust.

Actually not that uncommon. Konw how some folks seem to be a mosquito magnet while others just get a bite or two, even though they are in hte same places? Same thing can occur with birds and bugs.
