Arizona Chickens

Hi Mikey,
I sell my Serama chicks for $15. I don't keep them to be old enough to tell which ones are SQ and which are PQ, since I don't have a big enough yard for grow out pens. Mine are smooth and frizzle, class A or B parents. If you want to see them they are at www.azseramas.com. Once they all molt, I need to get new pictures because they have matured a lot, and their chests have filled in nicely.
I do have one hen from the person on the slideshow (Priscilla), another hen from this person's friend (Mama Cass), and then two hens (Marilyn and Celiene) and Elvis from Amy Bullock (the SCNA rep for AZ). Amy sells hers for $15 for willow color legs, or $20 for yellow color legs when she has young birds available ... and then on up to hundreds, depending on frizzle or show quality. My sister in law is friends with the lady with the slide show and she is how I got so interested in Seramas. Then I started looking for other breeders, since I wanted unrelated (as much as possible) birds and found Amy too.
I have tons of chicks right now, suddenly now that the weather is better I'm getting 100% hatches - so 4 - 6 a week! It's really crazy. I have a lady coming to pick up 4, and then I have two more that just hatched and another 3 going into lockdown today. In the summer we were just getting 2 here and 2 there. If we keep getting so many we might have to not put so many in the incubator!
Oh, it's so cute! Celiene has been super broody, so we let her have two day old chicks for the first time, and she is SO happy! She is such a good mommy, taking them all over for food, and keeps them tucked up under her wings so cute

We had been afraid the hen wouldn't accept them before, so never tried it. We're going to do it every time we have a broody now

Thank yo Nurseshelly! great information. Those silly little birds are so cute - wait, did I just say that?

Tammy'd kill me if I came home with some of them!

Get Tammy a "Because I love you" present.

Can you speak bright and sparkley-like? That should be sufficient, unless of course you want to play the evil (do we have a villain yet?), in which case you would need to sound devilishly suave.

My chickens are already stars so they can show all the chicken actors the ropes (see video in sig line).

Wait, I thought my Banties were the stars. They're the ones laying ten eggs a day!

plus, they do tricks, they perch on my arm and shoulder like a parrot, well, maybe more like a parrotlet. And, one even jumps on my back when I bend down and climbs up to my shoulder that way.

It will be an epic like some of the other "great" films, with a cast of thousands

we have two easter eggers that give blue eggs
and also two olive eggers send me a pm

Only get ones with pea combs--the gene for pea comb is very closely linked to the gene for a blue eggshell. About 97% of the time these two genes are inherited together.

Ooooh-oooh, yes, pick me, pick me.

I could be a villian to be reckoned with (Insert evil smiley with lightning bolts and scary music here)!

Yeah, that's the ticket!

"Because I love you I got you this cute little chicken.

That's nice Mikey, because I love you I got you this new couch...

...on which you may now sleep!"

Doesn't TT have some stunt chickens?

Newbie...Day 3 with 5 1/2 mo barred plymouth rocks...Zoey, Daisy & Rosie (or so I was told by one child tonight, will have to check with the others kids though)

IT'S COLD OUT THERE! Last night was the girls first night in their new open air coop (3 walls) and wouldn't you know it, it's almost freezing out there. The two previous nights were spent in the a large dog crate in the garage. It's 10pm here now and I'm terrified; even though they "made it through" the cold last night.

Last night they were huddled into a corner on the ground, so today I started building a floor off the ground to install. I mismeasured by 3/4 of an inch too wide-urgh. Since I had a busy Mom running errands day, I didn't get to working on it until dinner was cooking. Tonight, I went to spy/check on them and they are up on one of the roosts. hey. I'm hoping they'll be warm enough....One of the books says 20 degrees F, before breaking out the heat lamp.

Other questions....
My run is 4x8... can I really leave all three of them in there all the time or do I need to let them forage in the backyard?
Pecking order? Should I be worried about the pecking? One (Zoey) keeps pecking the other two in the head.
Layer rations? Well, since they are 5 1/2 mo, I bought the layer rations and scratch even though they haven't started laying. They don't seem to be eating the rations at all. Suggestions?
Sidney Sue, Queensland Heeler needs some help...she has found this addition to the family upsetting today. She whines at the sliding door and won't go out. I have to take her around the other side of the house. Today, I tried to have her walk with me to the run but she just cowers and whines no matter how much I reassure her. Hoping everyday will get better. Course, she had a field day the first day when she snuck out an open door and chased them. Thank the stars she minds "OFF!" and "COME!"

A 4x8 run sounds fine to me for three chickens, of course the more room they have the happier they seem to be. I wouldn't worry about the pecking order as long as none of them draw blood. I don't know about the layer rations, mine will always eat the scratch before their regular food so I try to keep that to a minimum. As far as your heeler, maybe hold one of the hens and bring it inside or to the door and sit down with it so your both at it's level. All the Heelers I know love to chase the birds so that is kinda weird. Good luck.
