Arizona Chickens

Great! I hope the second little chick they took is a pullet, she was sure it was because it had a bump(?) on its bottom? They were sooooo nice--I felt bad for inflicting my family's cuckoo-behavoir on them. The baby figured out how to turn on the hose, and did so at an in-opportune moment. When they got there, I was sopping wet: head to toe!

They were impressed by the # and variety of my flock, but I really don't have that many. I think when they all look different, you are used to having a bunch of one color, and you don't know the individual chickens, the same chicken can run by 4 or 5 times and you think it is a different one.

They were impressed with Patch, and recognized him from the Aloha website. I have a famous chicken!

Kids are funny! Yes they always do things at the worst possible moment.

So yeah a bunch of multi colored chickens running around would look like alot! They are used to only have RIR's and EE's.

Mary Ann, so nice to meet you and your husband. I hope those girls do a good job for you.

Gretchen won't be coming down next weekend, so I'll have some W/BW hatching eggs available if anyone wants to purchase them by Thursday next week. you can PM me

I also have some 4 week old Wheaten roos that I'd let go for $5 each.

Just had my bacon and eggs for breakfast, I'll soon head out to move my chicks off of the back porch and onto the north lawn and pray that we won't be getting a lot of rain next week.

I am ready to plant seeds. What is good to plant right now? Why did you put the plants in the ground in the bottomless bottles instead of taking them out. I found a site with red okra seeds and purple carrots. Laree inspired me to look for other colors. What actually survives the summer heat...besides okra? Any great heirloom winter squash ideas?

I used the bottles because they were started plants and would freeze right now. Too cold for tomotoes. Almost all heat-loving nightshades need the soil to be ~75 degrees to germinate the seeds. I started the seeds a few months ago in a fishtank with a reptile tank heater under the glass---and then put them outside when they got too big for the propegator. I dispise waiting until mid-summer for tomatoes. Must have some now!

edited: Baker Creek seeds. www.rareseeds.com Best heirloom site ever. You could also go to gardenweb.com (I think) and to seed trades with folks.

I removed my post. Our chicks have been rehomed. I will continue to be on the forum because I have enjoyed all the fun that has gone on here...but...In the future...IF I say I am going to try again....tell me to sit on my hands! Unless I move to the country .....then all bets are off. that EMU looks really good Laree! LOL.

Questions:

Does anyone use DE? Where in the EV can you buy it?

Does anyone sell their eggs for eating? How much are you charging? I see most on CL for $2-$3 but there are also some for $4-$5 but those must be organic otherwise they would never sell with the $2 cartons as their competition.

In the next month, I will need to shed my 2 Cinnamon Queens... will anyone be interested? They are 7 months old and both laying 6-7 days a week.

I dust everything with D.E. every time I clean the coop / run. Use "food grade", I get mine at Western Ranchman, but all feed stores should have it.
