Arizona Chickens

The hawk in the run tonight was a Cooper's hawk. It got in through one of the two open human doors at either end of the run. Just goes to show you that no matter how predator proof a coop and run can be, it's all for naught with an open door. The ladies weren't phased too much by it and none sounded the alarm. They all were very observant of it though.

pastrymama, that sounds like a Red tailed hawk, they're huge.

AZBootsie, was that bird large? I agree with Mama Hen Chris that it looks like a Red Tailed.

Bob's henhouse, coyotes would be bad once they found your chickens. Dogs are the worst.

Gallo, inside the coop!! that is wild!! Really glad my encounter wasn't up close and personal. Did you chase him out or let him finish his meal??

The one watching my chickens stayed up high, moving from pole to pole until I put the chickens away. He didn't seem huge. He looked a bit smaller than the vultures, but much bigger than the crows out here.

I'm pretty sure I just messed up BAD!

My new incubator should be shipping tomorrow but I just won an egg auction for Black Copper Marans eggs.

Which came first, the incubator or the egg ? :barnie

Anyone around Tucson have room in an incubator if the eggs get here and settled down before the incubator? Heck, I'll even drive them up to Phoenix.

Bryan,
It is my first chicken project. I sure hope they are all females. I was told they were pullets when I purchased them but I guess from what I have been researching that is only about 95% accurate.

Disclaimer - I am a noob & have never incubated eggs as of yet.

I think you're still OK. The way I understand it is the eggs do not start gestating until they are in the incubator (Or under a broody hen) & they are OK outside it for a week or two.

Just leave them at room temperature until the 'bator is there and set up and they should be fine...
