Arizona Chickens

Hi folks! I just wanted to introduce ourselves as new members, and new chicken owners!

We bought our first 3 chicks in March-2011, all healthy ladies named Ginger, Harvey, and Poppy. We're tentatively planning on adding quail to our flock next year.

We live in a suburban environment, and are mostly recycled building materials to house and pen our chickens. We're using the West side of our house as a patchwork, build-as-we-go, permaculture environment. This project is forever in construction, with big dreams in mind. This area is 6'x50' on our 1/2 acre lot, with a 6'x 8' shaded coop space, and a 6'x48' run.

We use netting from the house roof to the brick fence to pen the ladies, and burlap sheets to shade the run. The nesting "boxes" are more like caves, as I've constructed them out of cob (I'm also learning some earthworks as I go along).

We've been using backyardchickens.com as a resource this entire time, and now want to be a part of the community! Cluck Cluck Cluck!

Welcome!!
You have cool ideas!! Glad you joined us!!

I think it was going to be a bright turquoise blue not a dark color. we wanted to stick out in a crowd! I did find a chicken costume a thrift store today so maybe my 2 year old will be sporting it at the show too!

Memphis - Spitz's will be here on Friday. Assuming everyone makes it through the trip I'll give you one of my on week'rs and the 5 pullets.

They said Wellsummers were on a wait list so I couldn't get any for you.

And on a side note I lost one of the sex links last night.

I am sorry MIkey. Sometime later in Feb, I will be shuffling chickens to sort out breeders for the Easter Hatch. If you are looking for more sexlinks, it would be easy to toss a couple of dominiques in with the Lav ams and hatch some black sexlinks for you. Let me know. The incubators will be fired up for Mahonri's Easter Hatch-a-long and I LOVE watching the pips work their way out of the shells!!

That would be the best color for any design. I think the colored flag is pretty but will bring up the cost of the shirt. White gets to dirty to fast but a light tan would also work.
