RIP Reba...

Angie,
I understand how you feel. I love all of my animals, period. I've dealt with caring for a sick beloved animal and having it pass.
It's a terrible pain and I hope that as time passes it becomes more so a fondness for the memories of Reba.
May she rest in peace.

Angie, I am so sorry for your loss.
At least Reba was with you and knew you cared and that you gave her the best treatment possible.
I hope the pain of loss subsides and the good memories grow for you and your family.
Each pet is a precious member of the family.

Thanks everyone for your support. We have had very good luck with our chickens over the past 3 years. We have only lost 3 chickens (internal layer, ascites, and respiratory infection) and 1 chick (splay-legged).

I just keep thinking about the little chickies I'll be getting in May.

I have a lot of things to keep me busy until then. I have to get my yard and house cleaned up and painted as my 18 year old DS is graduating in May, and I think my SIL is coming from Ohio.

I also have to get ready for our fair in April. My 13 yr old DS is in 4-H, and I am the poultry leader. Got to get my poultry kids ready for their showmanship, breed show, herdsmanship and educational posters, egg contest, laying hen contest, meat pens, work day, barn duty, 4-H attire, auction information. Did I miss anything? (I will be printing this out so I remember everything)

Anyway, thanks again and I'll check back in later.

Angie

Is anyone placing a hatchery order any time soon? There are a couple breeds that I want to get 1-2 each of, but that hardly warrants a whole order. Alternatively, is there someone in the same boat and maybe we can get an order together?

Mahonri - we have our appointment on Friday. Praying the same prayer! Our accountant is a miracle worker, though, so not too worried.

Crazy - when and if my chickies hatch, I do want to get some other chicks to add to them. What breeds are you looking to order? What hatchery and when are you wanting to get them? It might work out to order with you.

Very sad day.

I think I have lost most of my hatch.

I just can't seem to keep the temps stable. Yesterday I had several with nice spiders in them and could see the beating heart, but today, the veins have faded and the beating heart is gone. What happened???
I think my temps were too low. One side of the bator seems to be a lot cooler than the other. I am trying to compensate for that, but it isn't going well.

I am so sad, and frustrated.

Sorry things aren't going well. Sunday's hatch was a bust for me. 2 of 12 hatched, but I am not at all sorry since they were all pullet eggs. Some were newnew layers. All fertile, but croaked around day 13.

Time to get out the "hatching chicks" death chart and see what the girls' diet is missing. Like they aren't spoiled enough
