Arizona Chickens

How is everyones chickens holding up in the rain we are having? It is my chickies first rain, and they are uncertain on how to handle it. But I covered their brooders so they are protected from wind and rain (I don't have a real coop built yet) that still gives them the ability to roam the yard.

Mine are all hanging out in the coop. I had to run out and move their food into the coop. And, their water which they spilled. I guess we're going to have to build a small shelter for the food until we get the treadle feeder built.

WOW what a super idea! Truely tho which is best cardboard or styrofoam?

Thank you! I will do that.
Not but a few drops of rain here but its cold! I am glad Cotton's chicks are more fluffed out now. All 4 doing great.
Hey gang, I don't have a turner for my bator. I here so many differant ways of turning the eggs yourself. Any where from 5 times a day to 2 times. What is it that you real professionals recomend? As it goes for the water do you make sure water is always in the reservores?
Got eggs from Aurorarose and can't wait. Hatching is due March 3rd if all goes well. Thanks again Aurorarose. Happy Valentines day everyone!

I was sent this cute picture. Good for for today!

Because it is so dry here, it doesn't matter. However, fluid from the hatched eggs can make the paper cartons weaker and maybe rip. I always use styrofoam.

Fuzzy, I hand-turned mine 3 times a day. I read that it needs to be an odd number so they don't sit overnight in the same position all the time, good luck on those babies! I keep the humidity normally around 30-40% for the first 18 days :)

Happy Valentines Day fellow BYCers!!!  :love

For a few days  now, I have been racking my brain to think of a way of keeping the tweety birds out of my chicks feed. They gobble it up so fast! But this morning, Sweety, my barred rock in whom I thought was a girl up until a few days ago, was chasing them all away! He was keeping guard on both feeders! He kept tweeties from the bigger chicks feeder in their coop/brooder, and keeping tweeties from his in his little brooder's feeder. SO CUTE!!! I laughed so hard watching him! :lau  Who needs a comedy show when you have chickens? :D

You can buy a feeder that requires a chicken to step on it to open...

A more clear pic of Kehena (left) and Sweety (right). Her comb is so much smaller, and his is already flopping over! They are the same age. I admit, I am pretty thrilled he ended up being a rooster. He is such a sweetheart, too! They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow.
