Arizona Chickens

Thanks all, The chickens are in for a treat!

Good afternoon folks!

Well it is time for me to cull some of my NYD Hatch chicks. I think I have picked out the chicks I want to grow out, which leaves me with 15-20 straight run chicks who need a new home. (Really, I haven't counted.) Most will be 100% Aloha chickens, but some are 50% Speckled Sussex/50% Aloha crosses.

Below is a good-sized SS/Aloha cross. (Don't worry, I am keeping this obvious roo for my next generation.)

The Alohas will be pretty varied and will look like this:

The chicks are ~7 weeks old and friendly. I would like $3 each for the culls--but if anyone is interested in buying the whole batch, I'll toss in the silkie/frizzle chicks as well.

FINALLY: My 4 toms are still looking for ladies. You can see them here.

PM me if you are interested/have any questions!

Thanks!

I am having a hard time controlling myself. Someone on CL has some Adult laying hens for sale for $20 and one person has some for $10. I would REALLY like to have another laying hen as I wait for the chicks to mature. I would also like one more Black Australorp and one of those ads has one. I don't think there is any way I could "sneak" one in and my husband not see it. I mean, they are huge and I would be so excited I wouldn't be able to contain myself.

Over the weekend DH got the watering system done with PVC, a bucket and nipples. He also got my teadle feeder done. Training the chicks to use the nipples was very easy. I purchased a mister system off eB for $24. Today I order a compost barrel from the City of Mesa. $5 and they deliver...can't beat that. I also picked up some zucchini plants to grown on the run to provide shade for the summer. Hmm, maybe the zucchini vines would hid a new hen?

My laying hen that I picked up a little over a week ago has only missed two days of laying. For some funny reason I kind of felt like she was free loading those two days.

Moved the three week old chicks into a large dog kennel from their brooder box and out of the coop.

After buying mealworms for $4 for a 100 of them and those being fully consumed in 2 days, I have decided I must start raising my own. I think the small brooder box will be perfect for them. I'll have to hid them someplace so the DH doesn't know I am growing bugs in the house. My 6 week olds decided I am their best friend now and followed me all over the yard today when I let them out of the run to forage and sun. I am out of mealworms but string cheese worked wonders.

You should get the black Australorp and pretend nothing is unusual

OH! And speaking of meal worms, I must order some for my chickens too! Though, they did have a scorpion treat today. I accidently stepped on one in the car port while cutting plywood for the coop roof! WOW! Can't believe it didn't sting me. LOL!! I just picked it up (after removing the stinger) and gave it to the chicks

Novaliegh: I'm so sorry about your husband, but I'm glad he's doing better. I had gallstones a few years ago, and the only thing that I've been through that hurt that much is childbirth.

Mahonri: Those pups are sooo cute. I wish that we could take one, but my husband and I talked it over, and decided that we don't want to be potty training a puppy and a toddler at the same time. How many did she have?

All she had was three!

So, my kids have claimed the big male and are naming him "Butch". I will still try and talk them into giving it up.

The female goes to the next door neighbors of the puppy's daddy.

And then there is the little deformed male... no tail, left hind leg messed up.
If it lives, there is another neighbor that will take it.

I had promised pups to 4 others, but now, I have to tell them that Lilly didn't cooperate.

And as soon as possible, Lilly will be spayed.
