So here is today's post.

After school I was bound and determined to put a grow out pen up.

I wanted it removable so I drilled into some studs in the coop and screwed in some 3/8" all thread, drilled out a 2x4 and used wing nuts.



I put a couple of lag bolts in the lathe and turned the heads off and the shanks to fit an eye screw, bent the end over and made soem removable gate hinge thingies



The right side lifts up (still need to screw a couple of handles on it to make it more user friendly) and pulls towards to open and access the pen.

I put a heat lamp in for the chickies (Thanks for the outlet idea Itsredcandy!) And Viola! Instant grow out pen!



It was funny as heck to watch the bigger ones come in and try to figure out what happened to their extra floor space.



It's pretty windy out so I (actually my son Walt) put a piece of siding on the far end so there is some lee.

I was in there while the wind-was-a-blow'n and it was just a bit breezy in the area.

Silly Mikey keeps going outside and checking on the peepers anyway...

SherrieT I wanted to thank you again for getting me the hatching eggs. Today was hatch day! Five of the twelve eggs never started, which I removed at day 10. Of the seven remaining eggs, all hatched! I have have chicks again!

In a few days I will candle my eggs I got from Aurorarose and put them in lockdown. I have kept myself from candling them before so not to disturb to much. I do have to turn them myself. I have a still air little giant bator. I will let everyone know how they look in a few days.
Having babies here! We have another nigerian goat birth!

18 bobwhite quail made it out and are stealing my heart. I started with 37 shipped eggs, when I candled each one of those tiny eggies, I was left with 21 with development. 1 died during hatch, 1 died because I got anxious(never again) and the last quit some days before. I would call that a sucessful first hatch with the new bator.

Excellent hatch!! If I remember right these were the shipped eggs that arrived without notification or something?? and sat for awhile??
