Arizona Chickens

dar, that SLW is just gorgeous!!!!!!!! i don't need another breed. i don't need another breed. i don't need another breed!!!!!!! but it looks like you were at the feed barn yesterday too. how did i miss you? i have been there twice this week! monday to clean him out of feed(he tried to throw some polish in my purse along with some cochins, oh my weakness) and then again yesterday to buy another heat lamp so i wouldn't set the baby silkie coop on fire with the dangerous lamp i was using. it got so cold up here that the ecoglow wasn't enough heat for those baby silkies they were screaming! so back to the barn yesterday to buy a brand new heat lamp and oh, happy as larry baby silkies. and again, "here, take some of these and a few of these......" thankfully, i have way too many already or i would have. the fireman surely would have a cow, if he even noticed.

mikey, i saw your full grown spitz there in roo form. but it had a swelled up eye, i think he said it was attacked by a bobcat?

how are your peepers this morning? any more with symptoms? hope you had a nice dinner with your dad.
They are on day 2 of tetracycline. I put the others on it as well (the babies, not the big girls.

No real improvement yet. Hopefully soon.

Dinner with dad & Marion went very well. We took them to G-mans and they had live music.

"The Nostaligics" which is a trio plus one. A harmonica trio at that. I wan't sure what I was getting into but it turned out to be pretty cool. They even came over and played Happy Birthday for dad.

BTW restaurant.com is awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone who plans on eating out!

I have certainly enjoyed all of the "new" people's posts. Happy Almost-Anniversary, and way to go reveling in the chicken addiction!

He hatched out on Dec. 31st, 2011. And he will be a real looker.
His genealogy:

Mother: "Olive" : 1/2 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana - 1/2 Wheaten Marans. from a very blue egg sent to me from Florida by halo. She is red in color, blind in one eye and lays 5-6 times a week...a beautiful Olive colored egg. (The color egg he hatched out of)
Father: 'Junior'-- hatched out by Turkey Breeder from my eggs... a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana...son of Geoffrey... my show quality Blue Wheaten Am roo that passed unexpectedly on the Bryce Ranch in Heber.
Boston now has "Junior" as his breeder in Heber.

He will look most like a Wheaten Marans as he has feathered feet, but he carries the blue egg gene in 3/4 of his parentage, and the dark brown egg gene in 1/4 of his parentage. If I could have kept roos, I would have put him over his mama and the 3 olive egger pullets I have that hatched out on Ground Hog's day.

I have searched here, on the net, in the literature, and I can't quite find a description that matches my hen's symptoms, and lack of symptoms. I am worried that this might be early MG, and I will need to treat my entire flock ASAP. I will take her to the vet tomorrow afternoon if I have to, but am currently unemployed and would rather not if I don't have to. I also don't want to special order (or use) antibiotics I don't necessarily need.

THANKS!!!! and Muchisimas gracias!

That is soooo coool!!! He is certainly treasured here at our house. I think he was the missing element to my flock, they needed a true leader. I LOVE learning about his genealogy!

Swedish Flower Hens

Still another one in the bator that looks like the middle one.
Also a partridge wyandotte and 8 EE'ers

So I went to my first cloverbud meeting (it like little 4Hers). It was really fun. I took some seramas and the kids had a blast. they made egg omlets that you put in a bag and boil. It was so fun and I recruited about 8 kids to my poultry club. I think I will have close to 20 when it is all said and done!!!

I was rushing home to grab some seramas and went to get some hay to put in the dog crate with them, when much to my suprise, nestled in the bales of hay covered by a tarp was a broody hen on 10 eggs. She is a serama cornish banty cross....dont ask how that happened. She is the most annoying hen because she runs into all the pens she is not suppose to be in and takes 10 minutes to get her out. She may prove useful after all. I candled and they were all good. I have no idea what they will be other than a banty mix. I am tempted to trick her and put more eggs under her when these hatch but we will see how desperate I am for incubator space.
