DE is diatomaceous earth. There is a food grade and a pool grade, you would want the food grade. It dries out or breaks down the outer layer or exoskeleton of certain bugs; then they can't retain moisture and die. The food grade is safe to eat, tastes like old flour.

I am devastated and could cry. My mother told me to never cry over spilled milk but what about breaking 2 weeks worth of eggs trying to get out your lunch? They aren't fertile but my girls haven't been producing well until today since last week. I only have (HAD) 11 eggs for 2 weeks.

CHEEP CHICKS!!! Available March 27th . . . .

Just a quick note, I'm working on a breeding project - you can read about it here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-aloha-chicken-project

Many of the chicks will look like smaller versions of "Swedish Flower Hens". The half-Sussex will look much like pure Speckled Sussex. Some will be buff and larger. All will carry Mottling.

I am looking for a "safe house" where a fellow BYC'er can keep a small group of the best hens and the prettiest rooster. If you can help, I will sell the extra chicks to you for a song! (Like, $1 each, wow!)

The only reason these are for sale, is it looks like I'll have a BUMPER crop of new chicks, and more may hatch than I have space to raise! I can only raise batches of about 30 chicks at a time, and I expect 50-60 chicks to hatch. If you can help, please drop me a line. Genetic diversity is hard when I'm on such a small property, so having a new mini-flock of a rooster and a few hens out there in the Valley would be a huge help.

Here is a recent photo of one of the roosters, "Flame":

Note if you live in Northern AZ or Tucson or further - **I CAN SHIP LIVE CHICKS!** - they would have to go out right away (March 27th.)

I just put in an order for 2 African goslings (one male, one female). They are due to arrive April 14th!

I also got my neighbor 2 silkies and 1 brahma. Obsessed much? I think so!

So sorry Selina. Swing by & I'll give you a dozen! Please BYOC!

Mikey- Is the chick doing any better?

I didn't want to utter a kinahurra but...

YES!

She had her eye open last night and this morning and this afternoon when I got home!

Those Gentamicin eye drops from the donor "who shall not be named" are doing the trick (knock knock).

Of course the control group packing peanut that has been with the sick chicks for weeks is doing just fine.

I'm going to shovel out the coop and disinfect it with the Oxine from Sonoran Silkies tomorrow.

*** edited because I don't want anyone to go to jail!***
