Cooper is a cutie. I wish I would have thought of doing onesies like that for my kids when they were younger. My oldest is sixteen now, and I don't think it would work.

Thank you on both counts. The things we think of now to do. I was too busy being mom to do this when my kids were little. I guess you can so this when you have grandchildren.

Gardening, Chooks and Family have eaten into my BYC time and I am hopelessly behind here. Billiam- congrats on the eggs. Someday i want to get some [FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]astralorps. The hens looks so girly with their small faces and tiny combs. Fuzzy- Beautiful pics and wonderful story. If it is a voting thing, of course I will vote for you. Mikey- sounds like you have conquered this chicken health thing!![/FONT]

I have an 8 week old Astralorp pullet hatched 1/21. She is so cute. Her name is Barbie (Chicken on the Barbie). She has that tiny head and big body with pretty black feathers. She is my tamest of all 10 of my girls (8 pullets, 2 hens). I love the bigger birds. If I waited to figure out which breed I liked best, I likely would have a larger mix of big birds rather than standards.

So, I searched on the Arizona Poultry Organizations website for a breeders list, and found a small listing of breeders listed. Was that it? Is there a list anywhere else of Arizona breeders? My family and I have decided to raise two breeds of chickens, Chanteclers ( partridge or white, large fowl or bantam) and Orpington bantams (buff). It is proving to be a difficult challenge to find these close to home. If you have a contact for these breeds, please let me know.

I don't know anyone in Arizona with chanticlers or bantam buff orpingtons. I haven't seen either at any Arizona shows. James Smith has bantam orpingtons, but as far as I know not buffs; he has whites, and maybe blacks.

APO doesn't have an up-to-date website; not sure how long it has been since it was updated, but it's been a LONG time. There is a facebook page that is sort of current.

Well my first 5 chicks are now 10 weeks old. They look nearly full grown. I told my DH that they were nearly big enough to eat and I picked one up, they are so boney, no breast to be found and they drumsticks are truly little sticks. We're not going to eat them but I was trying to get him to let me get the girls some little chicks for Easter. My plan didn't work, schucks!!

Well my dog is getting way more protective over the coop. She doesn't like doves in the least. When she hears them flutter and make their noise she's right at the coop/run getting them out. I found one in the yard yesterday, it wasn't fortunate enough to make it through the exit procedure. Josey (the dog) is very protective over her flock. She tries to clean them and nit pick when I pick them up and hold them. They hate it but I let her do it a tad, they are her babies (or so she thinks).

My flock is doing great. I keep checking them for mites, lice and runny noses and they are all ok. My adult Easter Egger is finally eating out of my hand. It's taken her a few months but now she trusts me. It takes her a good while longer to take treats than they others but she's more trusting now.

I find it funny that even though all my flock are housed together they still hang in their original clicks. The 10 week olds all hang together and that one that would stand in the middle of them and wake everyone up when they were a few weeks old is still head of that pecking order. Barbie is still head of the pecking order of the 7/8 week olds. Catatori is still mean to them all except for Paparikash. Paparikash (Jersey Giant) likes to hang with all other 9 of them. Paparikash is probably more most well mannered when it comes to the entire flock.

My 10 week olds have gone from tweeting to clucking. Now when I hold them they make long clucks.

My 2 older hens call for the other hen when the other hen is off laying. Catatori is very vocal when she's lonely and doesn't want Paparikash hanging with the pullets.

I should start a blog about Chicken TV. Their is always a little drama in my flock. I love this hobby.

New neighbors moved in this weekend. We invited them over. It's a single mom and her 7 year old daughter. She is supportive of the chicken raising. Whew! (that's all I'll say on that subject)
