They sure are fluffy!
That's funny! I love Orpingtons, with or without the accent.

Oh my GOD! I may have fried my eggs! I candled them and have 5 duds with 4 maybes, so far but when I put them in lock down I noticed a few hour later that the temp was down for I did take out one of the plugs like you are suppoised to do. Well I turn up the stat and I thought just a bit but then I forgot to check them. When I finally remembered to the temp was 106! Been that way I think for at least 2 hours! I am just sick!

It takes awhile for the INSIDE egg temperature to change, I'd say to get the temperature back where it needs to be and hope for the best. You might want to candle for movement.

I haven't been on in a while, and I'm something like a hundred pages behind, so I'm sorry if I've missed something important.

Welcome new people. I'm sorry for the losses and sickness for those going through it.

I just wanted to share...I was out doing some yard work in the front today, and I heard a very loud, very long egg song............FROM ACROSS THE STREET!!

Woohoo! Hooray for more chicken people in my neighborhood! Until now I was the only weirdo chicken person in the neighborhood (no offense, all you other weirdo chicken people).

I am getting so anxious for chicks! I REALLY, REALLY hope those eggs hatch! I haven't candled for a long time. I'm reading about everyone putting their eggs in lockdown, but I'm not using an incubator. Do I need to do anything else? Broody lockdown? :)

Many thanks to everyone who has tried to help my poor chix. I know it was lice I saw on the tumor/sick ones head near the ear area. I havent been on in a couple of days cuz I have been dusting/spraying like a crazy person. I checked each chicken before I dusted them and did not find any bugs at all on any of the other birds. They all got treated anyway just in case. Do you think its possible that the sick one got them because her immune system is down? I have isolated the hen with the tumor as I had to cut part of the tumor away because it was in her mouth and she was almost not able to eat anymore. Happy to say, she recovered just fine although I could not remove the entire tumor, due to excessive blood loss, but got enough of it out so she can eat better and drink .

She seems so much happier now but does not like being penned up. Any idea when I can let her loose again to be with her buddies? Thanks again sooooo much. Also, I was wondering, do I need to give any kind of oral meds to the flock? OOPS! 1 more question. About the ivermectin? Where do I get it, what kind/type and how do I use it with the poultry?

Two of the 6 that died, were chicks I gave to a friend. Naturally, their hearts were broken. I gave them a black silkie, and a white crested black polish. They are looking for a black silkie, and a white silkie. They do not want another chick, they couldn't stand another heart break of another chick not making it. They wish to get a teen or adult silkie chickens. I figure that many of you might have or might know of a silkie breeder. If anyone knows of someone who has silkies, let me know the contact info so I can give that info to my friends.

Puffycheeks, I don't have any experience with Ivermectin so I don't know the answer to that question. Lots of others here do though. I'm wondering about the "tumor" your sick hen's mouth/head. Could it be possible that she has Trichomoniasis? Her symptoms sound so much like it, especially with it blocking her mouth and the swelling in the face. Here's what the Merck Vet. Manual says about it. It's very common in AZ and can be transmitted to chickens via wild birds, especially pigeons.
