Arizona Chickens

Mine free range during the day so I have a shaded area that I put one in. It makes puddles in the dirt/mud (which they drink from) and they go in the shade, stand in the mister & get soggy.
That's sounds good for they can come and go in the mister as they want, not have to stand under want to or not.

We did the same thing, including blocking the mister heads! We also found a programmable timer for the hose. The ones that HD sells are limited in how long they will run (ie would only run 90 min/2 hours max, and wouldn't repeat until 24 hours later). We had to order one online from europe

that just has a normal timer that will turn it on at a certain time, and off at a certain time.....why HD can't sell one with those simple settings is beyond me!

We also have a cheapo oscillating fan also on a timer that stands behind the hose mister and blows the mist around...all of this is under shade cloth which really helps!

Well Good News! BlueBell was eager to see me this morning! Giving her love churps to me and wanting to come out of the pen. Her crop is still empty but she is eating this and that all over the yard! Gave her some goat grain. She loves that! What ever was making her sick has past for now.

I for one can't afford a mister system but do hose down the coop yards and lightly spray the birds.I really showered Bluebell and I think that help her get through her sickness. May have been just heat and getting old. All the other chickens and turklets are doing very well and growing like weeds.
Yippy...go BlueBell. Glad to hear she's feeling better.

Well if they are put up right and working right they shouldn't get the ground wet. They shouldn't be to close together or dripping.
My hose drips and the faucet drips as well, both run to puddle under the coop. This is where the girls prefer to be. I've taken the mister hose over to the bushes and placed them there but I don't think it's as cool as under the coop.

I tried misters before and the girls didn't like it. I also set up a swamp cooler and they didn't stay by it so it didn't help out either, plus halfway through June it gets to humid anyway. I just stick the hose on a very slow trickle and move it from tree to tree per day. They just stand in the water in the shade and have been fine. Plus it waters the trees! Multi tasking
