Arizona Chickens

Hi, Welcome.
I had the same situation with my husband. He wanted 2 or 3 and I wanted 4 or 5, no 6, no 7...

My girls and I ended up coming home with 10 chicks! (he wasn't with us)
We had 9 pullets and a rooster. We gave 3 to my sister and the rooster is on "wait and see if anyone complains" status. So now we have 6 layers.
6 is actually a very good number for a small flock. They aren't any more work than 4 either. I say go with 6 (or more;)). You might lose one anyway to death or roosterness.

It's easier to find homes for excess than to start all over, anyway.

I agree, I only have a couple of my original ones I started off with.

So go with getting more. Then tell your husband the extra's can be sold on CL.

That is how Im getting away with getting more

Laree - did you see post #256 on the classic chicken show? I IMMEDIATELY thought of you! Remember the avatar you toyed with for awhile? There is another picture earlier in the show that had me thinking of that avatar too, it was a chicken under a bush looking out head cocked to the side. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=299389&p=26

Sock
- you are up to 277 posts. Some of them are just fabulous. One of my favorites is #243 https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=299389&p=25, but I have others I love as well. I love the close ups and ones with color and the ones in mid action (crowing/flying) are quite fascinating. Goodness, I love so many of them...the broodies, etc, etc.

Im going to have a hard time picking the winner. There are so many awesome pictures. What Im looking for is the overall picture, not just the chicken. And yes, 243 is one of the ones at the top of my list.

And I really cant believe that I have that many and they havent even seen the prize yet

Although the people Ive shown it to think its sooo cute and adorable. LOL Ive also posted that I will do up to 2 to 3 scuptures, I might do more depending on if I have time. That is one reason I have the contest going so long, a full month and a half.

I was also thinking of letting the winner pick which chick sculpture they want and go down from there. that way they get exactly what they would like.

I find my citrus with holes pecked in it. I heard its bad so I take it away. They dont seem affected so Im not sure the reason that they cant have it.

Citrus is a food source for some kinds of birds. . . Orioles come to mind. . . don't know about chickens, but I doubt it would hurt them.

Laree, the kind of nightshade to worry about, here, is an attractive plant with large, dark green leaves and a pretty blue flower with bright yellow, cone shaped center. They are also very prickly. They are related to tomatos. My girls love tomatos, and I feed them frequently with no ill effects. I think if any part was poisionous, it would be the leaves, stems or root, but my girls ate two perfectly fine tomato plants without ill effect.

I wonder if my pomegranates would be good for the chooks, do any of you know?

I've not yet built my coop and run. I've been reading as many threads as I can on them and I'm wondering after stumbling upon the hot weather coop thread how many of you do a three sided coop connected to a run?

My wife said "we're getting 3 or 4 Joel, 3 or 4, 3 or 4". I brought home six and never got a complaint, now she's talking about "code says we can have 10".

Help. I am stuck in Mesa for another 2+ weeks with no access to fresh eggs. What can I do? I am hoping someone who lives close to the McKellips/ Elsworth area (within 10 miles or so) will see this and hook me up with some day of or day old eggs.
Thanks.
