Arizona Chickens

Found this in my chicken magazine:

Alektorophobia: Fear of chickens (from the Greek words alektor, meaning cock, and phobos, meaning fear), usually triggered by some unpleasant incident involving a chicken.People with alektorophobia have an irrational fear of chickens and their parts (including a feather or and egg). They break out in a sweat or experience panic at the sight or nearness of a chicken, fearing it might peck or attack them. In an extreme case, just seeing a chicken in a photograph or movie can cause panic.

I need just a touch of that phobia... :)

Don't risk it! I lost my beloved silkie, Cerebro, and almost lost Mufasa to a shallow water pond (a kiddie pool used for the ducks). There wasn't much water in it, even! Chickens are the worst swimmers ever and drown way too easily. I would fence off the water canal and save yourself some heartache (when it has water in it of course.) Though, if you fence it off, you won't have to worry if there is water or not...it will give you peace of mind.
I think you're right. I don't want to have to worry. I guess we're building a new enclosure and a fence this fall!

At first thought,
It looks like an undeveloped chick... But what do
I know... That is bizarre and a bit puzzling?
How many did you find? Was there any yolk?
Glad you took photos and shared this with us..
I also thought it was a chick that never grew. I had an 11 week old cockerel that "fancied" Millie. Not sure at what age a cockerel is able to fertilize an egg.

There was only the one along with a soft shelled egg.

I do love to take photos for sure.

It was suggested by pastry mama to write to speckledhen and she said it was a lash egg. It happens to some hens as they get older. It's a hormonal imbalance of her reproductive system. Will see if it happens again.

We do refrigerated watermelon as treats on hot afternoons...they really seem to enjoy that!  I also have some washed grapes in the freezer that I toss out there too, although they're probably too big for my banties & seramas to do much with....next time I'll chop 'em a little, then freeze 'em.......spoiled chickens......
You guys are such good parents!!
